01/28/13: Its sad but true.... I am still in a boarding facility

Please read about my story and consider giving me a forever home.  Life isn't fair I know, but I have been in a boarding facility for 3 years and would love to have a home, I am 10 now.

Love, Tuck

05/16/11: Tuck still needs your support ...

If you are not a suitable home for Tuck but want to help, please... consider making a donation to help offset his boarding costs while we search for a home for Tuck. Tuck is one of five dogs who have no where to go and at this time our only option is to board them. While this isn't ideal its safe and they are well cared for. Having to pay boarding fees takes away from our ability to help other dogs who may need medical care and are waiting to come into rescue. Please consider making a donation to help offset the boarding costs for these 5 dogs.

03/07/11: I STILL NEED YOU!, Please read about me and if were a match please apply! Dont pass me by because I am not 100% boxer please !!!

01/18/11: We hope someone will give this boy a chance ...

Tuck is still at the boarding facility - sad but true. The right family just has not come along for him.  He needs a real special, quiet, patient home without dogs, or kids. Tuck has lived with cats before with no issues.  A fenced yard is a must for this guy too.

Tuck just needs a chance....

09/17/10: The Value of Life, The Plea for Benevolence, The Necessity of Compassion
NBR currently has 4 dogs who are living in boarding kennels.....Ava, Rock, Wilco, and Tuck.  Sadly, we have not found appropriate foster or permanent homes for them..  The most disheartening thing about this situation is that all of these dogs have the potential to be wonderful dogs, but they can not seem to get a break.  They have all been mishandled by people and because of this they are now considered "hard to place".

These dogs have trust issues because people have let them down and NBR is committed to rectifying the wrongs that have been done to them.  We are looking for people to foster or adopt who genuinely want to help a dog in the truest sense of the word.  Please do not consider taking any of these dogs into your home if you have a big ego or if you are not tolerant enough to allow the dogs to adjust at their own pace.  These dogs need someone who understands that their adjustment period could be long, and they will need kind people who have lots of patience.  Some of these dogs have been in a foster home previously but they "failed' because the people (who had good intentions) did not comprehend the commitment needed of them.  Every time these dogs have a change they are set back in their progress so we are being very cautious about choosing homes for them.  NBR will provide as much moral support as you need.  We have been very successful turning dogs such as these around and you will need to be able to trust our recommendations and follow our lead.

Ava, Rock, Wilco, and Tuck all have much love to give, but they will expect you to earn their trust.  They will no doubt teach you more about dog behavior then you will ever learn in a book, and you may learn much about yourself and other people as well.  Once you earn their trust you will be blessed with a companion who will truly be your best friend forever, and you will be rewarded with the satisfaction that you truly made a difference in a needy dog's life.

Unfortunately boarding costs are expensive and they are draining our bank account.   If you cannot help us by taking one of these dogs into your home, please help pay for their expenses until suitable placements can be found.  Every one of these dogs would have been killed if NBR did not take them into our rescue program.  We feel that all of their lives have meaning and we are proud that we saved them. You can share in that pride by doing whatever you can to help.

08/04/10: Please help offset my costs as I am being boarded until the right foster home comes along for me; I need a really special home (patient, quiet, loving, fenced yard).

I am only one of several dogs being boarded and the bills are climbing preventing NBR from being able to help other dogs in need. You may not be the right home however please consider sponsoring me... Make a Donation

1/19/10: Tuck was returned to a boarding kennel, please donate to offset his expenses while we continue to look for the right home for this guy.

7/11/09: Tuck is in his new foster home and doing great.

Below is an update from his foster mom:

“Tuck is an amazing dog! Of all the dogs I have known, he is the easiest, smartest and most adaptable. He sits and waits for you to tell him "OK" before going out the door, loves car/truck rides; settles right down and curls up to sleep for most of the ride. He knows sit, stay, down, roll over, play dead, shake and go to bed. The first night he slept on the couch with my daughter, though it is clear he was never allowed on the furniture and only joins you when invited. After a busy first day of hiking and getting settled in his outside yard, he put himself to bed in his crate at about 9pm. He stayed the whole night with the door open until I woke him up at 7am!

My male cat is the best "dog tester" as he is fearless and loves dogs. He and Tuck cuddle together with me and Tuck even lets him share his kibble. The two female cats are much more shy and though Tuck shows interest he knows "leave it" and will not bother with them.

We are working on his only very small issue which is walking on the leash without pulling. I have a gentle leader which he HATES, so we are just working on heeling and he instantly sits by your side when you stop walking.
Haven't had an opportunity to test him with any young children but based on what I have seen he is protective of my daughter but warms up to strangers quickly. I also do not know how he does with other dogs.

Overall, he is a very happy and devoted boy.”

05/
28/09: Foster Home Needed !

BABY COMES - TUCK GOES

Tuck is a male Boxer-Ridgeback mix who was surrendered by a couple because they were having a baby.  Tuck had been a loyal companion to his family for 6 years, but they no longer had time for him.  Tuck should be on "easy street" but instead he could have been "on the street".  He was headed for the nearest shelter if we did not take him into our program.

Unfortunately we have no available foster homes for poor Tuck and we had to place him in a boarding kennel.  PLEASE HELP!!!! THESE DOGS NEED YOU!

Tuck has a hounds body, and the distinctive ridge of hair down his back which grows in the opposite direction to the rest of his coat.  He is a little shy at first when meeting new people, however, he is a wonderful companion.  He gets along great with cats and enjoys the company of teenagers.  He likes bread and peanut butter and absolutely loves cherry tomatoes!  Corn on the other hand gives him hives.

Tuck is a very smart boy.  He has learned how to sit, stay, heel, lie down, roll over, give his paw, play dead, sit pretty (sits on back legs with paws up), dance (stands on back legs and dances), and chase his tail.  Obviously he can be very entertaining.

He is crate trained but has not needed a crate for three years.  He sleeps in a dog bed and is completely housebroken.  He loves to run and leap over things in the yard.  He also plays fetch with soccer balls.  Tuck enjoys going for jogs in the woods as well as a leisurely walk.  Tuck likes to be scratched under his chin and tolerates his nails being cut.  He is not a fan of the bathtub, will try to look as miserable as possible to get out of taking a bath, but he is cooperative.

Tuck would love a home where he can go outside and run in a yard with a fence and have someone to play ball with him.  He would also enjoy a cat or another dog as a friend.  He is longing for a new family who will not give up on him.
