10/22/12: Elvis is
ADOPTED!!!!!
08/08/12: Elvis love to
play!
Another
update from Elvis's
foster dad
"Elvis is doing
great, he is a really
special boy. We have
been going to a fenced
school to let him run
off leash and he loves
to chase his new ball!
He also likes to play
keep away!
Elvis
has met a couple really
friendly labs and had
fun playing with them, I
think its because they
were very easy going. He
doesn't like to be
greeted quickly by
unfamiliar people, and
likes his space. He also
thinks what's yours is
mine as shown in the
picture where he wanted
water from my bottle, he
too owns my bed.
Elvis's forever home
will need to let him
adjust at his own pace
and not try to test him.
Elvis is a amazing dog,
super handsome, goofy,
stubborn, and loving as
all heck - you just need
to earn his trust."
07/18/12: An update from
Elvis's foster dad:
"Elvis is doing
really good, he really
likes all the extra
space the new place we
moved into. He is still
insecure around men, I
think he is improving
and will get better over
time its just not
something you can force
on him. He loves to play
ball but he doesn't
bring it back he plays
keep away. Elvis has
taken over the bed and
loves to burry his head
in pillows and blankets.
When he is sleeping he
doesn't like to be
bothered, he also snores
quite loud which is
cute. Elvis is a great
guy who will give you
his heart if you form
that trust and take
things slow..."
04/13/12: Elvis Has Left
The Building
We
were contacted by a
Shelter we have worked
with in the past asking
for our help with a 1 ½
year old Boxer named
Elvis. We were told he
was surrendered by an
older woman after he got
into a fight over a toy
with the other dog in
the home. Elvis was
petrified in the Shelter
environment and was not
doing well. They said
his time was limited and
they were hoping we
would give him a chance.
An NBR volunteer
went to meet Elvis at
the shelter and it was
confirmed that he was
very scared. Although he
was a bit reserved
around our volunteer he
had clearly bonded with
the shelter manager. We
determined that in the
right home Elvis would
be a great companion.
We have placed
Elvis in a foster home
that can only keep him
for a short time.
However, this has
allowed us to learn more
about Elvis so we can
place him appropriately.
What we do know is that
Elvis takes a little
time to warm up to
strangers. He does not
like to be pulled by his
collar (something we
always tell people NOT
to do). He seems to
tolerate cats and has
been friendly with other
dogs he has met. Elvis
has left the shelter
building but he is still
in need of a home.
Elvis is in need of
a foster or
foster-to-adopt home
immediately so we do not
have to put him into a
boarding kennel which
will not be good for
him.
Below is a
foster report:
"I picked Elvis up
on Saturday. We took a 6
hour ride to my place
and he was great the
whole way. I thought he
was growling out the
window at things but I
realized he has a real
short muzzle and a it's
more of a breathing
snort which is really
cute and funny - I also
learned that he snores
quite loud too!
Elvis is a real nice guy
who just wants to be
loved. He has been great
in the house and loves
to sleep beside you -
this poor guy wont leave
my side as I am sure he
is rather confused as to
what has happened to
him. Elvis seems to be a
bit head shy and doesn't
like his collar grabbed.
I have removed his
collar in the house to
remind myself that he is
sensitive to this.
We have gone on
several walks and he is
great on the leash. He
loves the beach and even
goes into the ocean. I
took him to the dog park
and he did great with
the few dogs he played
with although he didn't
like when I gave other
dogs too much attention.
Elvis is a great boy who
is just looking for a
home to call his own.
His new home will have
to give him activity,
attention and have a
slow hand - let him
adjust to your home and
don't force him to do
things that he doesn't
need to do.
The
women at NBR have been
great and have reminded
me that I don't need to
test Elvis in
situations. I need to
slowly let him adjust
and get to trust me -
this has been a great
reminder to take it slow
and let him be. The
funniest thing he has
done was walk into the
shower because he was
concerned where I went -
so he got a nice bath.
Elvis is wonderful and a
super handsome boy."
