11/19/06 - Chelsea has been adopted!

2/14/06 - Chelsea has, sadly, come back into rescue.  Her adoptive family had a major change in their work schedule and could no longer provide what Chelsea requires.  Chelsea is very affectionate and thrives on attention.  Chelsea is looking for a human companion who understands the needs of a boxer.

Chelsea is a sweet and loving 4 yr. old girl.  She gets along great with her foster brother, an 8 yr. old male Boxer named Major.  She would like to play with Major more often than they do, but Major is not a willing participant.  Chelsea is just as happy playing catch with her foster mom throwing her favorite ball.

7/24/05 - Chelsea has been adopted!

7/17/05 - Here's the latest from Chelsea's foster mom...

"Chelsea has been in my care for almost five weeks, since her surgery.  Although it is tough to keep her down, she is making progress everyday in her recovery.  She still has three more weeks of very limited activity, which restricts her from running and getting excited.  She is still restricted to her leash and is only allowed outside when necessary.

Chelsea is an extremely gentle girl that loves everyone. She has met my granddaughter and both were wonderful with one another. Chelsea is looking forward to running and being able to play with her new boxer friend, Major.

In the morning Chelsea likes her scrambled eggs for breakfast, and in the evening likes to snuggle with her foster mom on the couch.

We are thrilled with the opportunity to have Chelsea in our home and to watch her progress after such a grueling surgery. We are confident that she will be able to run in her fenced yard by the end of the summer."

7/6/05 - Chelsea received a clean bill of health…

Chelsea was re-examined by her surgeon and her staples were removed.  The surgeon was thrilled with her progress.  She is putting weight on her leg and is feeling much better.

Chelsea is still on restricted activity.  However, she is showing great strides in her rehabilitation and in 2 more months she should be back to normal activity.

6/15/05 - Out Of The Hospital And On The Road To Recovery

Chelsea had surgery to repair the torn ligament in her leg on Friday and the surgeon said everything went as expected.  She is back with her foster family and doing well.  She has a good appetite, is relaxed, and is happy to be out of the hospital.  She is on pain medication and will go back to the surgeon in 10 days for a check up and to have her staples removed.  The clock is ticking down and she should gain a bit more freedom in 32 more days.  All restrictions will be lifted by September 3rd.

6/4/05 - Surgery is next...

The orthopedic surgeon examined Chelsea today and x-rays were taken of her rear legs. It was determined that she indeed has a ruptured cruciate ligament, and surgery will be required to prevent severe lameness in her right rear leg.

Both rear legs have significant arthritis and she will need long-term medical management, which could include joint supplements, acupuncture, and hydro-therapy (a home with a pool would be a plus ;o).

Post surgery, Chelsea will need twelve weeks of restricted activity. This translates to no jumping, running, playing or stairs. She may be taken out on a leash for elimination purposes only. Surgery is scheduled for later this month.

Please keep Chelsea in your thoughts and prayers and consider sending a donation. NBR is proud that we are committed to accepting dogs that require extensive medical treatment. However we must continue to replenish our funds. Your continued support makes it all possible.

5/22/05 - Chelsea is a beautiful fawn three-year-old female. She was surrendered to rescue from an active household. She lived with four children and a shih-tzu. The family was overwhelmed by Chelsea's high energy and boxer antics.  Eighteen months ago, Chelsea had surgery to repair a ruptured cruciate ligament in her left leg. She is currently limping on her right leg and we suspect that this leg will also need to be repaired. We have scheduled a visit with an orthopedic specialist on June 1st for a consultation. Should she need surgery, she will need to be on restricted activity for three months.

Below is our first report from Chelsea's foster family:

"We have a winner here folks.  Chelsea is a happy, energetic, and very demanding of your attention (we can't give her enough!)  This little beauty does not need a crate. She is housebroken, fantastic with basic commands, and has had full run of our house since her second day of being with us. She is that good. Currently, Chelsea is living with our 3 dogs and gets along wonderfully with all of them. She can walk and run just fine but part of the time she will not use her leg at all."

We will update as we learn more.
