7/27/05 - Shadow has been adopted!!

7/24/05 - Medical Update:

Good news!!!

The veterinary Ophthalmologist examined Shadow and she feels that the cloudiness in her eye is pigmentation.  The vet dispensed an ointment just in case it is an inflammation. No treatment will be required at this time; however, we will be keeping a close "eye” on this condition. She will revisit the specialist in two months.

7/17/05 - From Shadow’s foster mom…

“She's here .....

It is very early, but she seems to fit in well with her three foster brothers  Robbie, Asti and Buddha …(the latter being a feline) . Her foster sister Bella (the other cat), has been in hiding since Shadow’s arrival.  Shadow is a chubby, white freckled little two year old girl with typical youngster energy. She arrived with her special prescription food... allergy free dry kibble. Shadow also needs an allergy desensitization serum, which she is an injection given every 3 weeks for now. She is a bit itchy, but overall, her skin is pretty clear . She feels like suede…very, very soft  with hardly any fur over her pink skin. Definitely a candidate for SPF 45, that is, if she isn't allergic to it !!!

Shadow curls up to kiss her two foster boxer brothers, who are both blind, but she wants to be part of the family, and she is winning us all over with her kisses & smiles (yes, she does seem to be smiling). First thing in the morning she can’t wait to kick up her heels and romp in her fenced yard.

After meals "the kids" hang out on the futon/dog bed, look out the window, investigate the smells in the yard, watch the neighbors, & protect the yard. It’s been a bit humid for walking, but she has the run of the house/fenced in yard. It’s almost like she was meant to be here. I think she'd like a sibling who could see her and respond to her pleas to play, but for now, she'll make do with the 101 stuffed toys lying around everywhere which she LOVES to toss in the air. She can't seem to make up her mind which toy to play with first...so they all come out.

Shadow's biggest need seems to be to cuddle. She is an angel."

7/06/05 - Another close call…

Shadow is the most terrific dog you could ever meet.  This darling white girl is only 2 years old and is as sweet as they come.  Due to Shadow’s extensive medical history, her family elected to bring her into an animal hospital to be killed.  Luckily the staff at the hospital knew that she is a exceptional girl and called to ask if we would help her.  We immediately said, “yes”.

Shadow’s medical history includes food allergic dermatitis, inhalant allergies, sarcoptic mange, and allergic reaction to leptospirosis vaccine.  Shadow’s allergies are currently being managed on hypo sensitization injections (allergy shots), Hill’s Z/D diet, and Revolution (for the sarcoptic mange).  The wonderful staff at the veterinary hospital that saved her life worked diligently to get Shadow’s allergies under control, and we can’t thank them enough for their compassion and kindness.

During her stay in the hospital she was tapered off of prednisone and her itching has decreased dramatically.  Over the past six to eight weeks Shadow has developed a white pigment in her eye.  She is scheduled for a consultation with a veterinary ophthalmologist to determine an accurate diagnosis.

She will need to continue her allergy shots indefinitely, and be kept to a strict diet.  We will let you know more about her eye after her appointment with the specialist.

Shadow is exceptional with other dogs, cats, and people.  This girl is everything the staff at the vet hospital stated and more.  She has a personality that can’t be beat.

Donations are desperately needed to help with her ongoing care.

Shadow is a Name a Boxer dog!
Thank you John and Michelle Zolock for naming Shadow.  "Our beloved Shadow has passed away.  He was a rescue Boxer.  He was a gentle, kind soul.  He would be honored to pass on his name.  With love and hope, John, Michelle and Hannah Zolock."
