Ella is a Name a Boxer dog!
Thank You Howard Pasternack for naming Ella.  We appreciate your support!

6/29/06 - Ella has been adopted!!

2/11/06 -   Ella Has Become A Butterfly!

Ella has come a long way in the past 6 weeks.  She has seen the vet twice and they are thrilled with her progress in such a short time.  She still needs daily medication and supplements and this will continue until her skin scrapings are negative for mites.

The doctor’s detected a very slight heart murmur which we will monitor, however the doctors are not expressing concern.  Her latest blood-work was normal, except her thyroid level was a little low, and she will be retested at her next doctor’s visit.

The lesions that were on Ella’s skin are healed and most of her fur has grown back. She has had a complete metamorphosis and she looks fabulous!  She no longer slinks on the ground in fear, and she has become happy and well adjusted.  She is truly enjoying the companionship of her foster siblings, is a real couch cuddler, and loves to give and receive affection.

Ella’s transformation has been an extremely rewarding experience for all of us.

Another Case Of Neglect and Abandonment
Saved In The Nick Of Time

12/20/05 -

Ella was hours away from being killed when we found out about her.  She was brought into the city shelter as a stray and she was in terrible shape. She had a severe case of demodectic mange and a bleeding skin infection. Mentally she was starting to “shut down”, and most of the shelter staff thought it would be impossible to find anyone who would want to save her.  These are the cases we feel compelled to help.

We had Ella transferred from the shelter to an emergency hospital where they confirmed the diagnosis and started treatment.  The doctors administered medication (oral ivermectin and antibiotics) and gave her soothing medicated baths and sulpher dips to give her some relief and speed the healing.  The staff at the hospital made a point to tell us how sweet she was for them.

The doctor's estimate Ella’s age as a young adult approximately 2 years old.  She is mostly white and appears to have color spots on her back (she has very little hair right now and it is hard to tell the color).  She has natural ears and tail.  Her skin condition is not contagious but it will take several visits to the vet, special care from her foster parents, and much time for her to completely return to normal.

Ella is most likely not spayed but surgery can not be performed until she is feeling and looking better.  Our bill at the emergency hospital where we had Ella transferred was over $700 for a two day stay.  However after those two days of treatments she looked remarkably better.  Needless to say we could use your financial help once again to help with Ella’s care which will continue for several months.

Below is an update from Ella’s foster home:

“Ella is doing well.  She is in a very fragile state but we are happy she is out of the shelter and hospital.  Right now we are providing her with peace and quiet and warmth. She enjoys being covered in soft blankets and resting her head on us while she sleeps.  Her skin is very sensitive, especially on her back end, but we can rub her ears which she enjoys.  She is unbelievably sweet and gentle, a little lady.  She is eating very well but most of all just resting and sleeping.  She has not yet met the resident dogs.  2006 will be a much better year for her.”
