Thank you Eva K.
Musgray for naming Nanji. “This is a male Swahili name (pronounced
NAHN-jee) meaning ‘safe‘. Dear one, you are now truly safe.”

adopted!! Thanks for the
overwhelming response to her story.

Nanji is ready to be adopted! Below is an update
from his foster mom:
Nanji's stitches were removed on Monday and he is
very happy to be free of the cone around his neck. His shoulder looks
good and his abrasions continue to heal. He was very happy to be relieved
of his "wrestling restriction" this week and has been glued to Sadie (my
10 year old female boxer) ever since. Lucky that even in her older years
she enjoys playing and wrestling as much as Nanji does.
My four year old male boxer Otto has been slower to
warm to little Nanji. It is safe to say that although there is an
enormous size difference (80lbs to Nanji's 20lbs) Nanji is fearless almost
to a fault with other dogs. Nanji clearly enjoys the company of other
dogs but his confidence may create conflict with a less socialized or
dominant dog in the household.
Nanji does not present as timid or nervous and is
healthily inquisitive and bold at times. These are all good signs for a
young man of his age especially considering what he has been through. He
is quick to learn and is working on his house training and leash manners.
He is very affectionate and, although he has the typical boundless energy
of a puppy, I would bet he grows into a pretty laid back boy.
Nanji will make a loving and loyal companion for
someone who is willing to invest the time required to raise a young puppy.
He would love to find a person or family who has a fenced yard, stays
home or works part time, and is committed to taking him to training
classes based on positive reinforcement. He also would benefit from
attending a puppy/dog play group at least weekly to ensure he continues to
develop good socialization skills.

The veterinary hospital treating Nanji’s injuries
was contacted by the MSPCA several days ago. An allegation was made that
Nanji’s injuries were not accidental and that he was intentionally dragged
behind a car. Employees of the hospital reported that the MSPCA met with
staff and took pictures of Nanji's injuries. We will update Nanji's page
accordingly following the conclusion of the MSPCA's investigation.
Nanji was discharged from the veterinary hospital to
his foster home on Saturday. Nanji's doctor was confident that he will
recover from this traumatic ordeal and with his great personality overcome
this rough start. The staff at the hospital were visibly smitten with him
and I am sure he is very thankful for their loving and expert care.
In the meantime Nanji has enjoyed getting to stretch
his legs and play like a normal puppy. He is happy to be in a home and
loves toys and lots of love and attention. He eats and sleeps like a
champ and does not fuss much when he has to be in his crate. He has
already been to two barbecues this weekend and has won over everyone he
meets!
He is looking forward to getting his stitches out
July 10th and can't wait until he can be free of his "cone" around his
neck. He was neutered and micro chipped on June 30th and the wounds on
his back, shoulders and feet are healing well. His healing skin is pretty
itchy though and he loves nothing more than to roll around in the grass
and find a soft place to nap.

DRAGGED 60’ BEHIND CAR
...Lucky To Be Alive...
Nanji is a 3 month old 17 pound brindle male with white socks, natural
ears, and an uncropped tail that looks as if it were dipped in white
paint. His mother is a boxer, but his father is unknown.
Nanji is recovering from a recent accident in which he was dragged 60
feet behind a car. He was brought to the
hospital and surrendered to their care. When we received the call
asking for our help we gladly accepted Nanji into our rescue program.
Nanji is being hospitalized in order to maintain vigilant nursing care
for his many skin wounds and to medically treat his pain. The
veterinary staff is amazed at how cooperative Nanji is regarding his
intensive daily wound treatments.
Although it is fairly certain that surgical repair of some of the skin
wounds will be needed, his healing process to date has been amazing.
Nanji seems to be a loving, trusting puppy that will soon be ready to
begin a life with his permanent family.
