Robbie is a Name a Boxer dog!

Thank you Jackie for naming Robbie in memory of your special blind boy who died earlier this year. He was the best!

2/15/08 - Robbie has been adopted!

1/10/08 -

A quick update from Robbie's fosters mom:

"Robbie continues to become more confident as he learns his environment.  He loves to go for walks, and displays that beautiful boxer prance.  His favorite thing thus far is the car.  He LOVES going for rides and is a fabulous passenger.  Robbie is quite trainable - especially when it involves food!  As much as he likes to get out and go, at home he does best in a predictable calm environment.  He's a gentle and sweet boy who needs to feel safe before he lets out his sparkling personality.  Robbie is charming, dapper, and spry.   He was
clearly traumatized by his experience on the streets, but he still wants to love and be loved."

BLIND AND FORSAKEN

Robbie is an older male blind boxer who was either lost or more likely put out on the street to fend for himself.  He was found behind a building on one of the coldest days this winter curled up in a ball shivering next to a dumpster.  He was taken to a shelter and was never claimed by his family.  We couldn’t wait to get this sweet boy into a foster home where he would be cared for with love.  We had him neutered and updated his inoculations.  He was also heartworm negative and reported healthy.  Below is the first update from his foster mom.

“Robbie is adjusting very well.  I'm surprised by how quickly he has learned to navigate my house.  He is exploring a little bit at a time, "learning" each area by methodically sniffing every inch.  He walks more or less confidently across the spaces he has already "learned" by nose and knows for sure where the main features are, like the water dish.

He and Gordon (his foster brother) are peacefully coexisting.  Gordon would like to play but Robbie is scared, so they are dancing around (metaphorically) how to interact physically. They do some good nose touching and butt sniffing so I think it's okay if they go slowly and give each other lots of space.  Otherwise, all is fine here.

Robbie is completely housetrained, and even lets me know when he needs to go out.  He is eating and drinking well.  His stitches get some licking but not for very long or very often. Oh, and he's ALREADY responding to his name very well.  Smart!!”
