DIMAGGIO IS A HOME RUN
We received a call regarding an 8 month old boxer
boy who had been in a shelter for over three months! The shelter‘s vet
was treating him for chronic bloody diarrhea and despite their best
effort he was not improving. He was deemed unadoptable due to his
medical condition. NBR immediately made the necessary arrangements to
have DiMaggio picked up and placed in a loving foster home. Since he
has been in our care, there has been a vast improvement regarding his
medical issue. He is now definitely on the mend.
Below is the first report from DiMaggio's foster
family:
"DiMaggio is so full of energy, love and
compassion. He is a handsome boy who, within hours, touched all of our
souls. He truly has a heart of a lion, but is gentle like a lamb.
DiMaggio did very well traveling from the kennel
to our home. The drive was a little over 2 hours. Although a little
skittish getting into the truck, once in, he sprawled out from one end
of the back seat to the other; frog style, with his head on a pillow.
Upon arriving home, he met his new foster sisters
Leigha (boxer) and Meia (chihuahua/poodle). They immediately
connected. DiMaggio had an accident the first night. We learned rather
quickly that he will give us signals when he needs to go... if we don't
take him out in time he will have an accident. Once we have him on a
schedule, I am sure he will be fine in this area. At this time,
DiMaggio is crated when nobody is home. The longest he has been left
alone is approximately an hour.
DiMaggio (lovingly know as “Mr. D”) has a favorite
toy - a squeaky slipper. All three dogs love this toy and have no
problem sharing. DiMaggio without a doubt has the energy of a boxer.
He always wants to play with Leigha, but he also knows when it is quiet
time. He will lay on the couch and watch TV when he's a little tired.
We are not sure if he is good with cats since we
lost our beloved cat, Eddie, last year due to old age (he was like 20
something). We did go to my vet yesterday and there were cats there.
DiMaggio didn't seem to care but he was definitely sniffing it up!
It truly is a joy to see the expressions on DiMaggio’s face as he plays
with Leigha in the back yard. As hard as Mr. D plays he also loves to
cuddle with all of us. He is a very sweet, charming, and gentle boy.
We feel blessed to have DiMaggio in our lives right now.”
