AGILE GRETEL...READY TO PLEASE

When we agreed to take Tyson from an overcrowded high-kill shelter, we were also asked to help two small dogs who were on the list to be killed named Rocket Dog and Gretel.  They were not boxers, of course, but we could not leave them behind.  One of our foster homes kindly agreed to foster both of the little dogs.

GRETEL

Gretel is a 1 year old high energy happy dog.  Prior to coming into our rescue program, she was placed by the shelter staff in three different homes and was returned all three times because of her activity level.  We are hoping to find a person who would like to train her for agility.  She is smart, agile, and eager to learn.

Below is the first report form Gretel’s foster mom:

“Gretel is a sweet girl that came into rescue from Kentucky with her little friend Rocket.  They get along just great, as he knows Gretel is the boss.  Gretel has a bobbed-tail and could be part rat terrier or maybe italian greyhound.  She has a beautiful reverse brindle coat.

Gretel weighs approximately 20 pounds, is very affectionate, and is not a barker except when the doorbell rings.  She loves to sleep under the covers but is also fine outside the covers.  She is pretty good with going outside.  There have been a few accidents, and that is to be expected, but she is getting much better.

Gretel definitely wants to be bossy for now as she likes to take whatever she wants from the other dogs.  She does it very gently, though.  I can take anything from her with no problem.

There are several other things I have learned about Gretel.  She comes and sits on command.  She doesn't seem too keen on cats, although she listens when you tell her to leave them alone.  She is good alone loose in the house; I have left her at home not crated for short periods and she was fine.  She has no problems on a leash; I have been using a harness when walking her.  She loves to run in the fenced yard.

Gretel is just starting to give kisses.  She is very athletic and could possibly be a GREAT agility dog.”
