NOT QUITE A MIRACLE…BUT ZEUS IS HOME

The doctors examined Zeus and told us that he very likely has a lesion on the brain.  The plan was to make Zeus comfortable, give him steroids, and reevaluate him in the morning.  In the meantime, we received a call from the woman who found Zeus on the road letting us know that a person came forward to claim him.

The story they were told is that Zeus is 10 years old and suffers from epilepsy.  When he was a puppy he was hit by a car and has suffered on-going problems ever since.  They had tied Zeus out in the yard; he somehow got himself loose, and strayed down the road.

The doctor who examined Zeus said he was in serious condition and did not think he would live more than a few days.  We are happy that Zeus is once again home with his family and we trust they will give him the care and love he deserves until he takes his final breath.  We wish we could have done more.

HOPING FOR A MIRACLE

Today NBR received a call regarding a senior boxer who was in “bad shape”.  We have named him Zeus.  He was found yesterday on a rural highway by a person walking their dog.  He came up to them for help.  He was emaciated and his face was extremely swollen (she said he weighed approximately 40 lbs…he should be 70 lbs).  She offered him a treat and he fell over.  She picked him up and took him to an emergency clinic.  The doctor completed blood-work which was only slightly abnormal.  They did prescribe antibiotics and she took Zeus home since she did not have the funds to do extensive testing.  The harness Zeus was wearing was on so tight it took a half hour to remove it.

Unfortunately Zeus had several bad seizures throughout the night and was in much worse condition this morning.  She felt he was dieing and she did not know where else to turn.  Animal control was called but they told her they would probably “put him to sleep”.  At this point Zeus is unable to stand and his eyes were described as “floating in his head”.  He has not taken any water or food today.

We immediately made arrangements for Zeus to go to an animal hospital and he is now en-route.  We are anxiously awaiting the doctor’s call.  His prognosis looks grave but we thought he deserved every chance to recover.  NBR is committed to do whatever is possible to help this poor boy.

Many prayers are needed.
