Jade
Jade has
made a remarkable
recovery since her
accident ingesting
Rat Poison.
After her stay at
the hospital she had
to be watched
closely by her
foster parents.
Part of the recovery
process was for her
to take Vitamin K
for a 30 day period
2 times a
day. Luckily there
were no incidents.
She returned to the
doctor for follow up
blood-work on June
26th to test her
levels and ability
to clot. Thankfully
everything came back
perfect. We are
also happy to report
that there will be
no lasting
bad effects from
this close call with
death. She will be
available to be
placed in a
permanent home soon
after she is spayed.
Below is an
update from Jade's
foster mom:
"Jade is
a very active
(mischievous) puppy
who loves to play
and does fantastic
with my other 4
boxers (2 boys & 2
girls). I think she
would do best in a
home with another
dog.
When
Jade has to be left
alone she does OK in
the crate, but since
she likes to chew it
is imperative that
there isn't any
bedding in the crate
with her. A Kong
with a little kong
stuffing (frozen)
does the trick.
A family
where someone is
home for a majority
of the day would be
preferred. She is
an absolute angel
who loves the
outdoors and
cuddling up with me
inside after
playtime. She will
be the perfect
companion!"

Another gem fighting for
her life ..
We received a phone
message the other
night saying she had
10 minutes to find
help to prevent an
approximately 16
week old boxer mix
puppy from being
euthanized because
the owner said they
did not have the
money to treat her.
They were told
the dog had eaten
rat poison
the day before and
her owner brought
her to the ER when
she started to show
symptoms. Luckily
we received the
message in time and
called them right
back. Even though
they said Jade's
chances of surviving
were 50/50, I knew
we would all agree
that we could not
let her die as long
as there was a
fighting chance.
Jade's symptoms are
indicative of the
type of rat poison
that contains
warfarin which
depletes the body of
Vitamin K and
prevents blood from
clotting properly.
If not treated
quickly the animal
starts to bleed
which is the case
with Jade.
Jade required a
blood transfusion
last night, was
given a dose
of Vitamin K,
and put on
IV fluids.
The doctor called
early this morning
and said Jade was
doing as well as
could be expected.
She is stable for
now, but may require
more blood. They
are watching her
closely. she can
help, but we will
need a quiet foster
home for her if Jade
makes it past this
weekend. Jade needs
everyone's
positive thoughts
and prayers,
and an angel to come
forward to foster
her. Jade will have
many restrictions
for several weeks
and will need a very
quiet home where
someone is home the
majority of the day.
