Lily was picked up by
animal control
running loose in a tough
city neighborhood.
We received a plea from
the shelter asking us to
take her; they said that
in the area where the
shelter is located the
chances of finding her a
good home were very
slim. When we spoke to
the shelter we were told
that they feared Lily
would end up being used
as bait to train
fighting dogs.
The shelter has no
applicant screening
policy and they do not
spay/neuter the dogs
before they are adopted.
They were having an open
house the following
weekend and we were
afraid of what might
happen to Lily if we
didn't commit to taking
her…..so of course we
said “yes”. They
said she was a doll and
everyone loved her.
We were told the two
volunteers who walk the
dogs during the week
were in tears when they
came into the shelter
after we picked her up
and found she was gone.
It was half “I'll miss
her terribly" and half
"I'm so happy for Lily".
Lily is a beautiful
petite white Boxer who
is deaf, and she has the
most unusual beautiful
blue eyes. She is
approximately 4 years of
age and is now spayed.
She is well behaved, and
is happy to walk by your
side when on leash.
She has proven to be a
wonderful boxer and the
person who ends up
adopting her will no
doubt be very happy.
Below are two updates
from Lily’s foster mom:
- “Lily is so
sweet that I decided
to give her a nice
oatmeal bath soon
after we got home.
She was so dirty
from roaming the
streets and being
kenneled at the
shelter. You can
tell she has not had
much care for quite
some time.
I kept Lily on
her leash with me in
the house for a
while until I felt
secure that the dogs
would all get along.
It did not take long
before Lily and I
were up on the couch
with my boxer boy
Jo. She
REALLY likes Jo and
he seems to enjoy
her company as well;
it was calm and
peaceful with all 3
of us on the couch.
She eventually got
down and lay on a
dog bed by the couch
and then my boxer
girl Annie jumped up
to lay with me.
We all relaxed like
this for over an
hour before I got up
and started food
preparation.
I took her
outside while my
pups ate and she
pooped again-good
that she is regular
and doing it
outdoors! I browned
up ground turkey for
Lily. I added
some sweet potatoes,
a calcium supplement
and an organic
vitamin and she
LOVED her first meal
here!!!
As I type this
email, Jo, Annabelle
and little Lily
followed me into my
office and the girls
are asleep together
on the floor.
It's odd how my crew
accepted Lily so
quickly- Annie seems
a little put off by
all the extra kisses
I'm getting but it
will all balance
out. I'm going
to try to keep a
journal of any
behavior type stuff
I see-good and
bad-which might
provide some helpful
insight to potential
adoptive homes.

"I took Lily with me to
the Irish American Club
the other night to meet
one of my running clubs.
They LOVED her-I'm
trying to do a little PR
for NBR to raise
awareness about the
large number of dogs who
need homes. She
was so calm and relaxed,
she fell asleep in my
lap while I was visiting
with my running friends.
Four of
my running friends
came over last night
after dinner to see
the dogs- Lily and
my dogs LOVED the
attention- Lily is
certainly creating
some awareness in my
circle of friends
about the great need
for foster and
adoptive homes- It
also helps that I'm
taking her
everywhere so she is
very publicly
visible.
I'm
taking her to a
cookout tomorrow-
I'll put a cute
bandana on her and
let her work the
crowd. Lily
has been going to
daycare since she
recovered from her
spay surgery at
Tufts. She is
getting along with
all of the dogs
there and she is
quite a hit with the
staff.
Whoever fills out an
adoption application
for Lily better be
pretty wonderful if
they think they are
worthy of this
special dog!”
