Bailey Is Being Uprooted Because of His Family's Work Schedule

Bailey is a handsome dark brindle 2 year old boxer with the wonderful European “au naturel” look (undocked tail and uncropped ears). He is sadly looking for a new family because his guardians are traveling extensively for work. They are finding it difficult to let him go but they know it is for the best.

The keynote for Bailey is PLAY! He loves to play with other dogs and he loves to play with his people! He is very athletic; he lets you know when he is feeling frisky and wants you to engage him in an activity. His deep resonate bark also lets you know when he wants to eat or when he needs to go out. He has typical boxer energy and likes a good run/walk or play at least two times a day – best if another dog is along to engage him.

Bailey is very intelligent and he has successfully completed formal training classes. He follows standard cue words well such as “sit”, “stay”, “down”, “come” and “heel” (for times when it is necessary for him to stay by your side). However, in true boxer fashion, when Bailey is feeling stubborn it can take some patience waiting for him to comply. He has no experience with cats but he enjoys the company of other dogs. Like all typical boxer play sometimes it can be interpreted as “pushy” by other unfamiliar dogs and people, so playtime introductions must be monitored accordingly.

The perfect home for Bailey would be with an energetic family that will include him in their activities. Another canine playmate would be beneficial as well. Bailey is a lovely young boy who will be a welcome addition to a happy household.

11/20/09: On Hold - Moose Update

Moose had to get yet another two treatments for round worm and is feeling much better. In addition we are making arrangements to get him neutered. He is growing like crazy and has really benefited from having 3 foster siblings to learn from and feel secure with. Moose is a very smart little boy which gets him into much mischief and keeps me very busy.

10/28/09: Meet Moose!

A Better Life Ahead For Little Moose

One of our volunteers came across a young boxer puppy that a family was looking to get rid of, and arrangements were made to pick up "Moose".  We soon learned that these people bred their dogs and they were keeping all of the pups, except this one.  They did not want him.  The people were classic backyard breeders.  Moose had luck on his side and landed in our rescue program.

Below is a detailed account from our volunteer who was Moose’s savior:

“Moose was the smallest boxer I have ever seen.  He was just SIX WEEKS old when I picked him up.  I was sure he had some medical issues; something just was not right.  Why was he the one they wanted to get rid of?  He seemed like he either could not hear really well or perhaps could not see.  I could not quite figure it out but something just seemed odd.  He was not spunky and seemed very restless - waking up every hour in the middle of the night; crying and not sleeping well.  I assumed he was missing his mother, too, as he was extremely young to be without her.

When I took Moose out to go to the bathroom he had diarrhea.  Looking closely I could see many tape worm segments.  We thought it was imperative to get him examined by a vet ASAP.  The doctor did an exam and was astonished.  Moose had the largest amount of round worms he had ever seen in a puppy.  This was in addition to a severe case of tape worm.  He was prescribed deworming medication and also received his distemper vaccine earlier then usual because we learned his mother was not vaccinated and he was high risk for getting sick.  They gave him some meds and sent us on our way.

Within 24 hours of getting medical attention and nutritious food, I saw a brightness appear in Moose’s eyes.  He has really turned around to be a saucy little ham.  He is very smart and loves his foster brothers and sister.  He is picking up a lot of good habits from them too.  He is still VERY much a baby and whines to get on the bed and curls into my neck all night long.  When he awakes, I do too, because he his nibbling on my nose with his little puppy teeth.”
