08/08/12: Gabriel Is Truly An Angel

Gabriel had to fend for himself after the people he lived with since he was a puppy moved and left him behind. A neighbor found Gabriel and brought him to a shelter on June 7 where he stayed until we heard about him. The plea for help from the Shelter was forwarded far and wide but we were the only organization that responded.

The shelter described Gabriel as very confused and scared, but obviously very sweet. His owner just abandoned him after 8 years and left him alone outside. When we heard his story we were compelled to do something to make Gabriel’s life better. He was taken to the vet for an exam and to be neutered etc. directly from the Shelter (thankfully he was heartworm negative), and we made arrangements with a transport service for Gabriel to be taken to one of our foster homes ASAP.

We counted the hours waiting for Gabriel’s arrival…we were all anxious for him to start a new better life where he would no longer be hungry or scared. He was a perfect passenger on his long journey but Gabriel was happy to finally be in a home with people lavishing him with attentive affection.

Below is a report from Gabriel’s foster mom:

“This angel is amazing. Gabriel is gentle, loving, a good walker, and just wonderful. My kitties are still a little afraid but I keep them behind a kiddie gate so they feel safe. Gabriel is curious about them but nothing else. I am sure they will eventually get used to each other. One of the first things I did was to get him bathed. He had a funny odor at first but that was a quick fix.

Gabriel was thin when he arrived but he has since gained a few pounds. He loves his meals (not to mention his yum yums) and is eating well (and getting spoiled). He is always very hungry. He loves getting special additions to his breakfast and dinner, especially eggs. When I make his meals he patiently lies on the floor in the kitchen and watches me. He got his "first" bone which I think he really enjoyed. He looks great and his bowels are normal now.

Gabriel follows me where ever I go. He really is a Momma's boy but he loves everyone. He truly is a very special guy. I often lay next to him telling him he will never be hungry or unloved again. Then he looks at me with those eyes. He just loves being where ever I am. He also loves sleeping on the sofa. He found a toy which he loves and has started to play. He enjoys being loved on and appreciates a good snuggle (and I love snuggling him).

Gabriel looks forward to his walks. We take our first walk at 5:30 a.m. and then lie back down and take another nice walk before I leave for work. He lies in the hallway every morning as I get done in the shower and watches me get dressed for work. He then knows his second morning walk is coming.

Gabriel is doing wonderfully. He is beginning to show his personality more. He still does not make a sound, but you can always tell he is a happy boy. At night when I am watching TV with him for a little bit he likes wiggling on his back and being silly. I blow belly berries and he wiggles some more. You can be assured he is being well taken care of and well loved.

I keep telling him we will both be going to the shore for a little vacation soon. I know he is going to be a good little traveler and have a good time. Especially since Mommom and Poppop are going with us. He will surely be spoiled and living large. I cannot wait to see how Gabriel reacts to the ocean. Not to mention all the new sights, sounds and smells. I am sure he will be a good boy.

Gabriel just wants to be loved. I still cannot believe that someone would just disregard him. I have not seen one thing bad about him whatsoever. He is no trouble at all. Gabriel is an angel.”
