In Memory: Misty
Misty was a special girl. We were her third, and final home, and we loved her to pieces. We only had our girl two short years, but they were unforgettable. She was left by her first owner outside for weeks at a time, with another boxer. She was then taken in by a friend of the owner, who could not keep her long term, since he lived in an apartment, so he cowardly brought her to a groomer, and never went back. We found her through the internet, boxer rescue, in Mansfield, MA. She came to live with us in March of 1999, and they guessed that she was approx. 8 years old at the time, a long time to wait for love and security. Since she had never been properly cared for or fed, she had developed a condition where her gums grew over most of her teeth, and the small teeth in the front of her mouth were worn to stubs, probably from chewing on a chain for weeks at a time. We took her to the vet, and she became an instant celebrity and star patient. We had her gums fixed, and the vet said he'd never seen such neglect before, it broke our hearts. But it was nice then to be able to watch her eat food, and chew for the first time in years!! We also made her even prettier by having her warts removed as well. Misty loved our cat, Crystal, and the two became good girlfriends. Misty was a handful, since she never was properly trained, but she was a good girl with a heart of gold, and loved us all so much, including our two little daughters. She followed us from room to room, and ate all of her food, plus Crystal's too! She left us suddenly on a Sunday evening this past May. A quick heart attack took our girl. We miss her and will always remember her.
