In Memory: Wizzard

My husband and I adopted a white boxer named Wizzard five years ago. She wasn't  the cutest puppy they had but she took to me right away. I was pregnant with my youngest son at the time  and didn't know how she would act.  She'd sit with me in my rocker or on the sofa, and cuddle with me. My husband worked at night and for some reason I felt safe with her there.

When I took her to the vet to get her ears cropped, the vet said that I was wasting my money because she wouldn't live more than six months, and that white boxers are born blind or deaf.  Wizzard was neither.  She was a very smart dog. After I had my son, I was kind of afraid of how she would react, but from the minute we got home she loved him. One day, I'll never forget, I was calling her because I knew the baby was sleeping, and I wanted to know what she was into.  As I passed the bedroom, she raised her head from the baby bed.  She was in the bed with my son, just laying there with him as he slept. I left her there to see what she would do, when he woke up crying, she jumped out and ran to me crying herself as if to tell me that he was up.

Wizzard loved boat rides and  rides in the truck or car.  She had to sit in the middle of the front
seat so she could see everything.

We had to put Wizzard to sleep April 1, 2002. It broke all of our hearts.   Everyone in the family loved her so much.  It was like losing one of our kids. We proved the vet wrong by her living so many years.

I have two other boxers I got from friends that grew up with Wizzard, and they knew she was gone. I was the only person in my town to own a white, fawn and brindle boxers. Wizzard just passed away of old age. I wish I had the money to adopted another white boxer, not to replace Wizzard, but because a boxer is the most beautiful dog I've ever owned.

Thank You Boxer Rescue for the my wonderful dog Wizzard.

Sincerely, Carla Bergeron, Louisiana
