"Suzie"

This dog has been adopted but has not yet completed the two week "trial period" in it's new home. We are no long accepting applications or inquiries. Should the placement prove to be a poor fit for dog and/or family, he/she will be moved to the AVAILABLE section on the Available Dogs page.

• Suzie is a Pit Bull about 2 years old who was living in an abandoned building, and picked up by animal control. She was taken to a shelter where she gave birth to 5 puppies five minutes after arriving. We took her and the pups because they were scheduled to be euthanized, and we were asked if we could take them into our rescue program. Her puppies have all been placed, however Suzie is still waiting for a home. Suzie is a very nice, quiet dog. She knows "sit", "come" and "out of the kitchen." She has learned to not even look at the cat in the household, and the cat will let her pass on the stairway without any problems. Suzie is very interested in chasing outside cats however, or barking at them if she is crated. She does not like being crated, but will do fine if left loose in the house. She will let you take toys from her mouth without growling, will eagerly chase a tennis ball, loves stuffed toys, and regularly checks the dog toy box for new items. She is gaining weight, and looking better every day after her recent spay. She loves the car, and does not do any damage when left alone. She is excellent on a leash. She has been fine towards other dogs when encountering them on walks, and has been good with her non dominant foster brothers and sisters. She is a big tail wagger, and greets guests with enthusiasm. She will jump up to kiss, but will stop if told "down". She is a very sweet and affectionate dog, and is desperate for a family of her own.

• 11/2/99 - Mum and pups are finally safe in their new foster home, and are now known as...Suzie and her baby boys. We have also discovered that Suzie is more of a American Staffordshire Terrier mix than a Boxer mix as originally thought. However, she is none the less very sweet and affectionate. The vet has estimated Suzie's age to be about 2 years old. The pups have a few sniffles, but everyone is in surprisingly good shape. There are 4 males total...three fawns with white snips on the face, and one dark brindle with a white blaze. They will be 4 weeks old on November 5th, and will not be available for adoption until they are eight weeks old. We are concentrating on keeping them healthy, and pray that they do not come down with any life threatening illness. They were born at the shelter, and may have been exposed to a number of viruses. Join us in thinking positive thoughts for them all. We will post an update when we get to know them better.

• Previous post - This brand new mother is waiting for someone to bail her out of the shelter where she had her pups just a few days ago.  We don't know much about her but believe her to be a Boxer mix.  The shelter staff says she is very sweet.  There are five puppies that are two weeks old as of 10/22/99.
