Stella's got them stumped
04/16/03 - Update and Adopted.

"Stella initially responded to her medication, but her condition has unfortunately worsened in the last couple of weeks. What they originally thought to be a variant of a rare skin disorder called cutaneous histiocytosis now appears to be more of a cancer variant. Stella's entire body is covered with tiny little bumps/tumors, and she has a small tumor in her throat.

The good news is that she is now under a different treatment, and is not getting any worse! She gets around a little slow, mostly due to the medication, but that doesn't stop her from climbing up on the couch or being first in line for a treat!

So long as she is not suffering, which she doesn't appear to be, we will not stop trying to help her until we run out of remedies. She is a sweetie and it kills us to see her in this condition.

Because of that, and because we have come to care for her so much, we will not subject her to more stress by adopting her out and have decided to keep Stella as our own. She now has her own home and a family (including two other Boxers) that cares for her, and all we ask is that you keep Stella in your thoughts and prayers as it is going to take a lot to make her better!

03/26/03 -

Stella is now being treated with cortisone and is responding well. Her large tumors have shrunk to half their size and we hope to continue that so we can remove them. We did remove the 2 largest ones successfully and she is doing well.

03/20/03 - Stella's got them stumped.

The Veterinary Dermatological Pathologists have been investigating Stella's lumps, and have not been able to figure out exactly what they are. The best they can tell this is a variant of a known tumor. Stella is being treated with cortisone to shrink these things down to a size where we can remove them. After her surgery we will need a forever home for this sweet girl. She is in good hands and being well cared for. But we have expensive surgery ahead, to try to help her. We will keep you updated.

02/25/03 - Update

Stella's biopsy came back inconclusive. The report said it is not mass cell.  We brought her to a specialist and he said he cannot say its cancer or it isn't according to the biopsy. He feels we should do more tests that cost hundreds of dollars or euthanize her. We are not ready to do that. We are going to take her to another teaching hospital for tests on her blood and more in depth tests to learn what are those lumps and what is going on with poor sweet Stella.

She is in her foster home with 2 males and doing great with them. She is super sweet. We cannot thank her foster Mom enough for going the extra miles in helping her get the care she needs. Please keep her in your prayers. She needs a break after 3 yrs of neglect. Please help out with her medical bills so we can continue her quest for help.

02/09/03 - Update

Stella is in need of a foster home or forever home as soon as possible.  She is presently in a temporary foster home which is to crowded.  If you can help us out with this wonderful girl, please fill out the appropriate application and contact us.

02/03/03 -

Finally, Stella has made her long journey from TN to Scranton Boxerrescue. Thanks to many dedicated animal lovers Stella made the cross country trip after a plea from a TN group that could not take her in.

She is doing well in a temp. foster with 2 female boxers and a small dog. She is good with other dogs and cats. She is also good with older kids. She was brought to a shelter after her owner became ill and could not afford to take care of himself never mind poor Stella.

She has some growths that have been aspirated and they were not mass tumors. We will work her over and get her in top shape. A vet is not a familiar thing to her so we we'll get her shots and hw and anything she needs to get on her way to a new life.

Stella is 2-3yrs old and is super sweet. Please help Stella get a home that will take care of her for life.
