 09/09/03 -

Gracie has just left for her new home. We still have all the medical bills to pay for her and the other three dogs. Thank you for your donations and please continue your generous support as we are still short money so we are still fundraising.

We have accepted two dogs into our rescue program. One 15 week old puppy, Gracie, and one 3 year old girl, Kenzy

They BOTH need EXTENSIVE ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY. Here are their stories:

08/28/03 -

Gracie is amazing! This is the sweetest, most gentle girl in the world. She is in foster care with 2 adult male boxers, Vegas and a cat and there is no one that doesn't love her. Her tail never stops and any attention she gets from people is returned with the sweetest kisses. And, if you think that having 3 legs slows this little girl down, you're wrong. Gracie RUNS everyday at the dog park and keeps up with the other dogs. Sometimes Vegas gets a little too rough with Gracie and she runs to the nearest person to protect her - she's definitely a lover, not a fighter!

Gracie is very smart - she's 95% housebroken and will sit at the front door to go out. She knows sit and wait and come. Gracie loves to ride in the car and can hardly contain her joy when you pick up her leash to go for a walk. But Gracie's true joy in life is snuggling on the couch or in the bed with her people. Although Gracie has no idea that most dogs have 4 legs, the extra attention she receives from everyone she meets makes her very happy indeed. This little girl deserves the best home that anyone can give her - she will return your love 100 times over.

08/19/03 - Update

Gracie came thru her surgery with a true Boxer attitude. After looking at her x-rays our orthopedic surgeon determined her leg and paw were too deformed to fix. There was nothing he could have done. Her leg would be much shorter than her good leg. If the difference in length of Gracie's two front legs is too great she would never be able to use the short one.

With regret we had Gracie's leg removed. Her recovery time will be quick since she is already used to walking and running on three legs.

08/07/03 -  Gracie

Gracie is in need of a BOARD CERTIFIED ORTHOPEDIC surgeon. Her story if different than Kenzy's. This time it was no ones fault. Gracie was not exposed to any dangerous situations. She was born with a deformity in her front leg. We heard about this pup a few weeks ago and arranged to have her brought to us from a shelter where she was abandoned and scheduled to be killed. We learned she was brought to the shelter when she could not be sold by a backyard breeder. Gracie will be seeing our orthopedic surgeon next week.

He has seen pictures of her and is waiting anxiously to see how he can help this adorable puppy. Gracie's leg will have to be straightened and lengthened. If the surgeon feels this is not possible we will have to face the reality of having to removing her leg. It sounds awful but she will be much more comfortable not having to balance herself compensating for a leg too short to touch the ground. Gracie is the biggest sweetheart that you can imagine. We will be doing whatever the surgeon recommends that is best for Gracie. Hopefully her leg can be repaired to normal. Gracie's expenses will be at least 1000 dollars.

THESE ARE THE DOGS THAT NEED US THE MOST.

Taking an easy dog from someone who has to move and rehoming him is not a huge challenge. The challenge is transporting and caring for dogs like Gracie and Kenzy. The challenge is finding the funds to help these dogs.

That¹s where YOU come in. We need donations to cover the medical bills for these dogs. Remember we get no public or private funding. We rely on adoption fees and your donations to cover our expenses.

All the money goes to the dogs.

08/04/03 -  Gracie

Gracie needs your help to try and save her leg! We received a call from an animal shelter regarding this delightful puppy that was surrendered because the “breeder” could not sell her. No one wanted her because of her leg. Gracie was born with a deformed front foot. She is approximately 15 weeks old.

We have scheduled a visit with an Orthopedic specialist who will review her case. Gracie is the biggest sweetheart that you can imagine, and we will do whatever the veterinarian recommends that is best for Gracie. Hopefully her leg can be repaired to normal. However, whatever surgery she needs will be expensive and we need your help to replenish our medical fund.

Gracie thanks you for caring!

We will send an update as soon as we get more news.
