 01/15/04 - Kenzy Update - She's Good to Go!!!!

We’d like to reintroduce you to Kenzy.  Those of you that follow our site may remember that Kenzy is the sweet girl that was allowed to wonder her neighborhood.  Unfortunately on one of Kenzy’s tours, she ended up missing for 4 days and nights and came home with a shattered rear leg.  Kenzy had multiple fractures, the bone was sticking out through the skin and her humans decided they wouldn’t spend the money to fix her.  The vet convinced them to contact rescue rather then kill her and we jumped in to save her.

It was touch and go for a long time as the BOARD CERTIFIED ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON was not certain he could save Kenzy’s leg.  But save it he did!  After months of surgeries, a metal plate being implanted into her leg, and many months of recuperation time, Kenzy is now ready to join a loving family.

Kenzy is one of the sweetest girls I’ve ever met.  You would think that after all the surgery, poking and prodding, and pain that she had to live through, Kenzy would be somewhat less then good spirited.  Wrong, wrong, wrong!  This girl is a gem.  She has not displayed any temper at all, craving affection and loving you right back.  And there is no dog out there that does a better ‘boxer wiggle’ then Kenzy.  Kenzy’s a great watchdog and will let you know when someone comes to the door.  She is amazingly gentle and when those big brown eyes look up at you, your heart jumps – she has a sweet deer-like quality about her (actually, I would have named her Bambi.)

Kenzy is housebroken, does not need a crate, is wonderful when left alone during the workday and loves everyone.  She loves riding in the car, looking out the window and waiting to see what the next adventure will be.  She loves to play with balls and tug ropes and snuggles with her favorite stuffed toy – Pooh Bear – too cute!

Our only ‘special’ requirement for Kenzy is that her forever home be a little less active then your typical boxer household.  Kenzy is a fun girl but due to her extensive surgeries, she should not go to home that is looking for a running partner or mountain climber.  Kenzy loves to play, but a more low key type of playtime would be best for her.  If a walk around the block is more your style then training for a marathon, if you love typical boxer spirit and enthusiasm but appreciate it in a more low key dog, then Kenzy will be the perfect companion for you.  She’s got a lifetime of love to give and is looking for the right person to give it to.

08/07/03 - Kenzy

We have accepted two dogs into our rescue program. One 15 week old puppy, Gracie, and one 3 year old girl, Kenzy.

They BOTH need EXTENSIVE ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY. Here are their stories:

Kenzy is a fawn female who left home on a Friday and returned 4 days later with a shattered back leg. She was in heat and roaming the neighborhood. Because of the extent of her injuries we assume she was hit by a car. The bone in her back leg was protruding thru her skin, broken in 4 places with several bone fragments. Kenzy's family could not afford to fix her. Instead of having her euthanized it was suggested they call Boxer Rescue. At that time we were told we had a 50% chance of saving her leg.

With out question we immediately transported Kenzy to the closest BOARD CERTIFIED ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON. After looking at Kenzy and her xrays the surgeon thought it was worth the time and expense to give her every opportunity. Kenzy's leg was then bone platted ( a metal plate was affixed to the broken leg pieces with metal screws). The surgery went very well. Now the hard part is waiting to see if we can fight off infection. We are very lucky to have the Veterinary Technician at this animal hospital willing to care for Kenzy for several weeks. The daily aftercare of this surgery is critical for its success.

Everyone who has met Kenzy is so surprised how wonderful she is. It is amazing her pain has not altered her sweet disposition. Kenzy's expenses will reach over 2000 dollars but no one will doubt she is worth every penny.

THESE ARE THE DOGS THAT NEED US THE MOST.

Taking an easy dog from someone who has to move and rehoming him is not a huge challenge. The challenge is transporting and caring for dogs like Gracie and Kenzy. The challenge is finding the funds to help these dogs.

That¹s where YOU come in. We need donations to cover the medical bills for these dogs. Remember we get no public or private funding. We rely on adoption fees and your donations to cover our expenses.

All the money goes to the dogs.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out an online application first.  Then e-mail the contact below.  Be sure to include your full name, city, state, and area code in the subject line of your message.
