*****WANTED*****

Someone special.  The story of Johnny just breaks our hearts - From the beginning of his life until we stepped in, Johnny's gotten a raw deal.  Shuffled from home to home, place to place, situation to situation, he's a baby that never had the opportunity to adjust before he was herded off again to someone else.  This left Johnny not knowing what anyone wants from him, who to trust, who to love.  What we do know is that Johnny is so very willing to give people another chance.  So this is what Johnny is waiting for - someone to give him a chance.  We don't know what Johnny's other homes were like, what they did to him, but whatever the circumstances were, Johnny would do best with a loving adult that wants to spend the time and effort to channel his energy.  And Johnny needs to be the only pet in the house.  Are you that special someone?  Do you have the heart to take a puppy that has never known a human that thinks he's the best boy in the world?  We know you're out there - we know you really do care.  Please let Johnny know that you think he's as special as we do.

We know Johnny a little better now and have decided that Johnny should go into a home where he is the only dog.  Unfortunately when you bounce a puppy around from place to place, home to home, the outcome is usually an insecure puppy. Johnny just doesn't know when to stop. He is a little too rough with other dogs right now. He has lived with other dogs but gets way too excited when he is allowed to play with strange dogs.   We think once he is settled in his new home slow introductions to other dogs will work out fine. However, Johnny's insecurities does not include people.  He really wants to get to know every person he meets and is very happy to sit on your lap and get as much loving as you can give him.  Because this baby has been shuttled around, we will not place him with young children - he's just now learning about kindness and gentleness and we believe that a home with loving adults would allow Johnny's outgoing personality to blossom.  This is a young boy that will become a wonderful family member if only given half a chance.  As we stated before, Johnny is not well trained, but in the short time we've spent with him, he's shown wonderful progress and we now know that he's a very smart boy.  Patience, kindness and gentle training will give Johnny the chance in life that he really does deserve.

3/29/04 -

Meet Johnny, a 7-month-old puppy. Finding out about Johnnyıs life took a little detective work but this is what we were able to piece together. It will also give you great insight into the life of a pet shop dog and another reason why NBR fights so hard to put an end to puppy mills and backyard breeding.

Six weeks after his birth (8/31/03), Johnny was shipped for sale to Brooklyn, NY. From here, Johnnyıs story gets a little hazy. He was purchased in Brooklyn and apparently after a month or so, the people that bought him realized how much work it takes to raise a puppy. They found someone to buy Johnny and off Johnny went to his new home where Johnnyıs new family realized that a puppy takes a lot of work. So it was once again time to dumpı Johnny. Johnnyıs second family found someone in the Bronx to take him.

Johnnyıs luck began to change in his new home not because it was a good home, but because a young man who saw the unkind treatment Johnny was receiving stepped up to help. The young man was told to mind his own businessı and had no option but to do so. In the meantime, Johnnyıs humanı decided that Johnny was just too much trouble and to remedy the situation, tied Johnny to the fencing of a busy highway. This never-ending nightmare was at last about to change.

The young man, who the day before had stepped up to help, saw Johnny tied to the fencing and immediately came to his aid. Johnny was cold and scared, but he was alive and believe it or not, full of kisses for his hero. The young man has 2 large dogs of his own and knew that he could not keep Johnny so he contacted NBR and even transported Johnny to our vetıs office. Once Johnny was safe and in NBRıs care, the young man went back to find out as much as possible about Johnnyıs short and sad life, which is how weıve been able to piece this story together.

So there you have it the first 7 months of life. Born on a puppy mill, transported by truck to a pet shop, sold to his first home, resold to his second home, given away to his third home and tied to a fence on a highway.
This, we believe, is the definitive answer to the age-old question, how much is that doggie in the window?ı 7 months of terror for a baby.

Johnny is in foster care now with 2 male dogs and a cat. We will post updates on his progress shortly. But from the first day we met him, Johnny has been a wiggling, kissing machine. His nub never stops and any attention that he gets is received with so much love and gratitude. And of course, Johnnyıs next home will be his last he hasnıt been able to depend on humans in his past, but he sure can depend on them now weıll see to that.

Because Johnny has been bounced around so much, weıre looking someone that is either home alot or someone that will take Johnny to work with them. Johnny needs the security of not being left behind for 8 or 9 hours every day.
