4/27/04 Zena's foster home writes So, Zena has been
with me four days now, and she's totally at home. It took a couple of days
for her to warm up to me, but she's really a remarkably loving dog. Zena (or
Honey Bee, as she responds to) is so friendly to everyone she meets now. She
wants to greet every dog she meets. I've brought her to the dog run the past
few days, and I actually trust her more than any boxer that I've fostered
with NBR (and you know that's quite a few). She's so playful, but she's not
aggressive or assertive. She walks so well on the leash, I often forget that
she's with me. She keeps a constant eye on me to anticipate any stops or
turns, and she rarely tugs at all (only when there's dog nearby that she has
a particular interest in meeting). She's on a regular walking schedule,
three times a day (with occasional fourth when our rescue friend, Mike,
helps out). Zena has been regular in her all her nature breaks, too.
Surprisingly, she never christened my apartment like most other rescue dogs
-- not one accident in the apartment. she eats twice a day, with no signs of
aggression when I try to take her food. She likes to hang out in her crate,
on the rug, or on the couch (that's where I find her when I come home, but
she never goes up there when I'm home). She doesn't find it necessary to
sleep in my bed or even in the bedroom (just like my girlfriend). She's
extremely affectionate, and she can't help but give you an overdose of boxer
kisses (unlike my girlfriend). She's been terrific with kids, most noises,
etc. Zena was a bit skittish whenever I made any sudden movements or picked
up anything. But she trusts me much more now, and it takes a lot more to get
her spooked. Zena likes to just hang out nearby while I'm working or eating,
she loves to go for walks, and she loves belly rubs. She's getting into
shape now, but long walks wear her out (more than 30 minutes), especially on
the warmer days. In the dog run, she loves to play tag with the other dogs,
whimpering slightly when no one is game to play. We saw cats at the shelter
when I picked her up, and I have a cat next door (they leave her in hall now
and then, and it has no where to go if/when I come home with a dog) -- Zena
wasn't excited at all. Zena will really make a great addition to almost any
home. We probably want to confirm that she's OK with cats, but she seems
fine with all the dogs she's met so far. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out an online application first. Then e-mail the contacts below. Be sure to include your full name, city, state, and area code in the subject line of your message. |
