7/8/04 Asti is doing great in his new foster home. He is currently living with another blind boxer boy, Robby, (the blind leading the blind;o) and his energetic 8 yo sister Diva...along with two cats. Asti has adjusted wonderfully to his new surroundings and loves his foster siblings.Asti walks extremely well on a leash and Diva loves to walk with him. He may be blind but you can't walk by this precious boy without him coming up to you and giving you his full attention which is complete with hugs, kisses and the boxer wiggle. If you have an empty lap, he will fill it. He has plenty of energy and keeps himself busy with his big soccer ball and "his baby" (it was Robby's but they share;o). Asti is a quick learner. He mapped out his new back yard within a few day and now is familiar with his name and his foster mom's voice. Asti went to the Ophthalmologist. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with progressive retinal degeneration (PRA). Asti is completely blind and nothing can be done to restore his sight. If you want a boxer that doesn't care if the floor is mopped, the dishes are in the sink and the bed's not made ... this boy is for you!!. 6/17/04 - Asti Asti is an absolutely GORGEOUS 7 year old fawn male. He was just neutered, brought up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. Asti is almost totally blind - being able to see some shadows, but not enough to help him out any. He will be going to an ophthalmologist soon, and we are hoping with surgery we will be able to give him at least some of his sight back. Asti is a sweet boxer boy who gets along with everyone he meets. He doesn't tend to notice other dogs until he (literally) bumps into them, and when he does notice them it's just a quick sniff - then off on his journey to figure out where everything is! He is fine with cats - his first foster home had some and he would just sniff around for them - but he never was able to actually *find* the kitties! As I find most blind dogs do - when we were in someplace new (like the vets office) he would lean against me to know that I was there and everything was okay - but he would also venture off towards new voices he would hear to find out if there was someone wanting to pet him! I had the distinct pleasure of having Asti fall asleep on my lap (he's about 60lbs by the way!) - and it was wonderful! He had a couple kisses for me when he woke up - then he stretched and found his way off the little couch we were on together. In case it's not obvious yet - I'll come right out and say I LOVE Asti! He is an exceptional boxer that deserves and exceptional home. He is an amazing pooch. Because Asti is blind, a fenced yard is a must! I would like to see him go with either another dog to keep him company, or someone who works from home full time. Being blind can be a bit disconcerting at times, and I really feel he would do best if someone (person or pooch) was with him all the time. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out an online application first. Then e-mail the contacts below. Be sure to include your full name, city, state, and area code in the subject line of your message. |
