Augie was cat-tested today, and it appears he doesn't have more than a passing interest in them. This means that with supervision and the correct handling, he can probably co-exist with cats and eventually become friends. Because we don't know his past history with cats, he would need to be separated from them at first when no one is home.

Here's Augie - we were told by the animal shelter that he doesn't like women... not true! Augie's a loving, adorable boy - highly intelligent and motivated to learn. He's also your typical adolescent - pushy, and always looking to see what he can get away with. This is the cutest dog - these pictures really don't do him justice, but Augie was a little camera-shy the day I took these, and repeatedly turned away from me. I think the camera unnerved him a little.

The day we picked him up, we gave Augie what I think must have been his first bath. Ellen and I both talked to him constantly, and after a minute or two in the warm water, with lots of reassurance, Augie's face started to lose its stressed look, and he really enjoyed the feeling of being clean. I don't think he's used to having much attention - he's somewhat hand-shy, and we're working to overcome that. He is also very fearful of being confined in small spaces - no problem getting in the car, but cages and crates scare him, and he can become really upset in these situations.

Augie and I had a training lesson on Monday, and the behaviorist gave us some exercises to to practice. He loves to go for long leash-walks, and to play with balls. If you are looking for a wonderful dog with a real drive to work, this is your guy! If you're willing to put in some time every day for training and playtime, this adorable boxer will repay you with interest... he's no couch potato; if you're not going to put in the effort, please don't contact us about Augie.
