12/11/02: Here's Muggsie's latest Mugg shots! ha! He was such a good boy sitting for the photos. I love him a lot. Hoping to see him settled in a home where he can be 100% part of the family.

12/10/02: Update on Muggsie:

Muggsie
has been doing so well. He is one of the most intelligent dogs I have ever met. We have been working on his commands and he knows sit, stay, come, down, off. His foster grandmother also taught him to shake. Muggsie is starved for affection and loves to be out with us. He is crate trained and needs to be separated from the dogs in the house because they have not welcomed him, although he is fine with the 12yr old poodle. He has not shown any aggression towards Ernie since the first day. He mostly wants to play with my two dogs and is desperate to be out with them when he is crated. He gets agitated when he is crated, but calms down when everyone is in the room with him. He has been sleeping in the room with us, in his crate and has been doing so well.

I am surprised that no one has snatched up this little cutie yet. He is the sweetest puppy. He's calmed down so much and is so eager to please. If there was any indication that he could get along with my female boxer, I would keep him in a minute. Because he is so energetic and seems to want to dominate, I would recommend placing him with a family or single person that does not have young children. In addition, he seems fine with submissive dogs, but not dominant ones.

He is such a great guy! He deserves a family that can love him as much as he will love them.

11/11/02:

Muggsie has adapted well in his foster home. He is a very sweet, smart energetic guy that is eager to please. We will be working with a trainer starting this Thursday to help him on his basic commands. He understands sit, come, stay, off...but as he is a five month old puppy he is easily distracted. He has adjusted to my 12 yr male poodle, has only shown food aggression. It is best at this time, if he is fed separately. He has not yet been formally introduced to my 6 yr female boxer, she is a bit dominant. They are both aware the other is around and an introduction will be arranged soon.

I am confident that Muggsie will make an excellent dog for someone who is boxer savvy. He will require additional training beyond what he has in our home, and consistency. He is still pretty wild, after spending much of his life in a kennel. He would do well in a home with another well socialized dog to provide companionship and to keep him in line. I cannot recommend him for a home with small children as he can be rough at times and can bite in play and snap when confused or upset. He has improved a lot as he seems to be feeling more safe and secure.

10/04/02 -

Muggsie is a 4 and a half month old fawn male puppy. He is neutered and ready to go. He is in need of training. He is a brat. He needs to be properly socialized with other dogs and people.

He was dropped off at the local shelter because the kids in the home were too rough with him. We are sending him to a trainer and he will be in great shape.

His Foster Mom writes:

He's very playful, and ready to explore. He knows sit, and drops like a rock for a treat. Learning to walk on a leash as well. He's a cutie. I actually think I see a little weight coming on him. This bony guy will be filling out shortly.
