1/30/04 - Dora When the Animal control officer arrived at the home there were two boxers being kept in 95 degree weather with no food, water or shelter. The officer could not believe the neglect. Lying among trash with heavy metal chains around their malnourished bodies he saw the saddest site of his career. One of the boxers was dead lying in her own waste, the other barely hung on. When he found Dora she could not stand and weighed only 25 pounds. Her owners were charged with animal cruelty but they fought to get her back (they used her for breeding). So for six moths Dora remained in the care of the Humane Society. They fought to get a release from the owners so they could place Dora. A local boxer rescue agreed to take her after the court case was over but after routine blood tests were taken they found out she was heart worm positive. Since the treatment is very expensive the local rescue could not take her. The humane society was faced with having to euthanasia her since no rescue would take her. They then called Northeastern Boxer Rescue for help since NBR has helped Boxers that needed extensive medical care in the past. After they heard her story they agreed to take Dora and give her another chance at life. Dora was transported sixteen hours to her foster home in New Hampshire. Unfortunately she caught pneumonia and ended up in the emergency room in a oxygen tent for four days. Her vet care has cost over $1000 dollars so far and we still face the cost of her heart worm treatment. NBR would appreciate any donations towards Dora's care. She will need several months of care before she finds her forever home but this little girl is a fighter. Dora is about three years old and has spent her whole life outside on a chain, but her temperament is amazing. She is sweet and loving towards everyone. She loves other dogs. Dora had no idea what living in a house was about and her foster home is teaching her manners .She is not housebroken yet but is learning. Going upstairs is also a challenge for this little girl. Dora is a real beauty, she is a fawn with natural ears and a docked tail and with a wiggle that greets everyone she meets. Taking an easy dog from someone who has to move and rehoming him is not a huge challenge. The challenge is transporting and caring for dogs like Dora. The challenge is finding the funds to help these dogs. Thatıs where YOU come in. We need donations to cover the medical bills for these dogs. Remember we get no public or private funding. We rely on adoption fees and your donations to cover our expenses. All the money goes to the dogs. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out an online application first. Then e-mail the contacts below. Be sure to include your full name, city, state, and area code in the subject line of your message. |
