UPDATE 12/27/01 - Bandit
is an American
Bulldog, and is about 2 years old. She weighs 75 pounds, but is under the
impression that she is a lap dog. She is a total mush for the most part, she
loves to lay in your lap, nuzzle your neck and have her ears and belly rubbed.
She is house broken and crate trained, and gets along well with most other
dogs. She will fight with other dominant dogs, especially females. She plays
very rough with my boxers, and may be too much for a little dog. She would just
as soon behead cats, so should not be allowed near them. She loves people, but
is too exuberant for small children. She's quite forceful and just kind of
barrels her way through life and into your heart.
Bandit
needs to go to a home that is experienced with bull-headed (oops, I meant
bull-DOG) type breeds, as she can be quite stubborn if she thinks she can get
away with it. She knows the basic commands; "sit, stay, heel, down, shake,
and come", although she still has a problem with "stay" when she's really
excited. She would need a large fenced area, as she has a lot of energy. She
seems to need to have a job to do, or a routine to follow, and is extremely
smart. She would probably be a great agility dog. She loves praise and treats
and will perform tirelessly for either, and would do best with a family that can
spend a lot of time with her.
She doesn't need to be crated when left alone, and for the most part has
outgrown the chewing. She has chewed out of boredom in the past, but not
recently. She does need very sturdy toys, though, as she can and will destroy
anything with a squeaker or stuffing. She doesn't seem to suffer from
separation anxiety, but she is never totally alone, as there is always at least
one other dog at home with her.
Bandit has been waiting a long time for a permanent home. How can you look at
that face and not fall totally in love? I have seen few dogs as loving and
devoted as she is. If you take her into your home and your heart, she will
truly be your best friend for life.
