BOXER
RESCUE
"
Chloe"
10/6/01
- Chloe
is a darling 6 month old, female, white, deaf Boxer pup, with 2 different
colored eyes. Typical to white Boxers, she has beautiful freckles on her
belly, on the back of her legs, and a few on her ears. Chloe came from a
shelter where she was brought in as a stray. She was very underweight and had
kennel cough when we got her, but she is thriving now that she is getting
care.
Report
from Chloe’s foster home:
Chloe
is really fitting in nicely with our 4 dogs (3 Boxers and one Golden
Retriever). The night that I brought Chloe home, I had them separated by a dog
gate for a little while, so that they could sniff each other. Everyone seemed
fine with the new addition to the family, so I introduced them the same
evening. They definitely realized she was a puppy, and were gentle with her. I
had her sleep in a dog crate in the kitchen, by herself the first night, and
she was very calm and quiet. The 2nd evening, she cried and seemed
out of sorts. I think she was lonely, so I brought my 15-month-old Boxer
downstairs to stay with her. That settled her right down. Chloe loves to
snuggle up with my dogs on their beds and in their crates. I think she would
do very well in household with at least one other dog.
Chloe
and the youngest Boxer of my group play together constantly. The two older
Boxers are very interested in playing with her, but they want her to chase
them outside, in laps around the yard, which Chloe doesn’t always want to
do. She loves to play with toys. Occasionally, she starts to puppy play-bite,
when she gets excited, but I have been giving her a nylabone dinosaur when
that happens. She loves to chew on the nylabone dinosaurs, plaque attackers
and bones. She met my 3 stepchildren over the weekend, ages 7-12. She was fine
with the kids, but more interested in playing with the other dogs. When the
kids were roughhousing in the yard, Chloe tried to play with them and started
chewing on my stepdaughter’s coat, as puppies will do. I brought Chloe
inside, gave her a toy to play with, and she was happy. The kids had a hard
time remembering that she was deaf, and they weren’t sure how to communicate
with her. I think Chloe would do fine in a home with older children, because
they would be able to assist with the reinforcement of her training.
My
dog sitter met Chloe today, and she thinks Chloe is an absolute doll.
Chloe is definitely a very sweet loving girl who I have seen blossom
over the last week. She is super affectionate, and always greets me with
wiggles and kisses. We are giving her a lot of attention, exercise, food and
love, and she is very appreciative. She has an excellent appetite and has been
eating her meals every day. I am feeding her an extra meal at lunchtime in an
attempt to put some weight on her, and she is gaining nicely. Chloe is
amazingly good on a leash, obviously very smart, and very well behaved for a
young Boxer. I know there is a special family out there who is willing to
spend the time to work with Chloe, and who will provide her with the loving
permanent home that she deserves.
Please consider adding Chloe to your family. She is a fantastic dog that will undoubtedly make you very happy.
