Clay

ADOPTED 01/29/02
UPDATE: 12/18/01 - Clay is back with his foster Mom, and it's difficult to say why. His new family said that Clay was so well mannered in so many ways. We think that they may have forgotten that he was a rescued dog that had been from place to place over the last year, and spent 3 months in a kennel due to a shortage of foster homes. All was very stressful. And now he was in another new place, their home, and he needed time to get to know and trust them. Sometimes being so good makes people treat you as just one of the bunch, as if you knew all the rules, when you really need to be handled kind of special for a while. Clay is a special guy, and will make a very great addition to some family. But he finds it stressful going from one home to another, and he will need time to unwind when he makes it to his 'forever home'. Our boy looks and acts very much at home, but he won't really know he's found his home until he's been there for some time. We need an easy going home for Clay to feel secure in.
10/16/01 - So we've had Clay for two weeks today, and he is the same well mannered, wonderful pup we first thought he was. I say pup, because you wouldn't figure him to be five years old. He's playful, loves soft toys and
tennis balls, and loves to run full out in our yard, when the spirit so
moves him. He is great on leash, while going on our daily walks. But got a little excited at first, when we went on a Guide Dog Walk with a few hundred other dogs. He has not tried to leap through any door or gate, a
problem, which he was noted for prior to being neutered. And we are
reinforcing with Clay, basic commands he already knows.
This is one handsome guy, who will touch your heart, make you smile, and
won't bowl you over going through any doors = )
10/02/01 - Meet Clay, our latest visitor. He is a tall, slim, handsome fella,
about five lbs underweight at ~55 lb. He is a fawn and white Boxer,
five years old, with natural ears, and a docked tail.
Clay has fit in quite nicely with my dominant 4 yr old female, and my 6
yr old male. This is day two since we broke him out of the kennel he
has spent the last 3 months in. Clay was in the slammer, for breaking
out of his owners' homes and running around his neighborhoods. Of
course as with so many other male roamers, Clay had not been neutered.
This may explain his roaming ;-). Clay has been pretty quiet, spending
his free time investigating the yard, and finding every thing soft to
snuggle with.
Clay is very intelligent. As I am writing this, Clay has just lightly
tapped his food bowl, reminding me that it is close to dinnertime.
(Remember this is only day 2!) He knows basic commands, is housebroken,
polite, and very easygoing.
He is up to date on shots, Heart worm negative, and was neutered 3
months ago.
Our foster homes are overflowing and Clay is being boarded in a kennel. Complete our Foster Application if you would like to provide Clay with a temporary home.
