Evie

Adopted 6/22/02
5/23/02 - Evie is housebroken and does not need a crate. She has calmed down considerably and is very sweet. She is a "people dog" - loves to cuddle, sleeps with me. She is not as interested in other dogs as she is in people - gets upset if humans leave her, not too concerned if dogs leave. She likes to play with other dogs, but is just as happy sleeping on top of a human. Evie can do amazing 'tricks' with her paws. Not only can she unlock a door, but she is also very adept at turning on the bathtub water, full force. She also will make every attempt known to man to escape - she will try to jump out of a car, force her way past you at the door, and I'm getting a little concerned about the windows. I don't think she'd go through them, but I also didn't think she'd unlock my front door and just leave. I will not take her off lead at dog park, I'll never see her again.. I strongly recommend that Evie is adopted to someone with a fenced yard (very high fence - no 4 foot fence for her) or someone in the city who will not take her off lead. Other then her constant plans for escape, she's a fun pup with a great personality, no temper, no food aggression. Oh, and she prefers men to women, making it very clear to me that she'll accept me, but would rather go with any man that passes by in the street. Yup, she's a flirt.
5/20/02 - Evie is doing great! Her blood tests are fine and we spayed her this week. She is housebroken and ready for her forever home.
4/20/02 - Evie
is
a 20 month old, 53lb,
muscular, brindle beauty who loves to play. She spent the first year of her
life in a crate because her owner was very busy and only had time to let her out
for an hour or two total. Because of this, we would like to find Evie a home
where she would not have to endure a lot of crate time.
We would also love to see her have another
high-energy buddy for her to play with. She loves to play with the resident
80lb alpha-male in her foster home, and has basically turned him into pudding.
Being the alpha, he never rolled right over on his back and played, but will let
Evie jump right on top of him while he has all fours up in the air (see photo
below). He likes to play with Evie most of the time, but he is 4 years old and
has slowed down a bit, so sometimes she can start to annoy him. Overall Evie is the typical goofy
adolescent boxer who just wants to hop around. We aren't sure about cats
because we haven't seen her around them. She did chase my little pug around at
first, showing a very predatory behavior for the first week, but now she is used
to him. It was clear that she didn't really know what to think of him & just
wanted to play. Evie will make a great addition to a home
that wants an athletic dog who likes to chase a ball and wrestle during the day,
but then drape herself across you on the couch in the evening. Since Evie has
never lived with young children, she will only be placed in a home with adults
or a family with children over 8.
Evie is also very attached to her humans, and loves to snuggle in front of the
tv. If she doesn't feel that she is getting enough attention, she will "talk"
the typical wookie-sounding boxer talk. Evie was being treated for an elevated
liver enzyme for the past few months. The enzyme has been dropping steadily
which makes us believe that she had eaten something like Tylenol which would
cause that prolonged elevation. However, during her upcoming spay, the vet will
check her liver to make sure that everything is normal. Recently she started
having accidents in the house, which I thought was unusual as she is very good
(and persistent) about letting you know when she has to go out. It turns out
that she has a urinary tract infection & is being treated with antibiotics.
