09/20/04 - This morning, Lynne lost her battle with cancer.
Lynne's Family has asked us to thank all of
you for your well wishes, prayers and your generous donations. As
you know, Lynne was never able to make that trip for treatment that your
donations were to go towards. The checks, that were never used or
cashed, will be destroyed, unless by specific request someone would like
their check returned.
Lynne's life was enhanced by the knowledge
that so many people cared for her.
06/30/04
- Update - Lynne and her family want to thank all of you for your
generous donations. Lynne has had a few setbacks, including a
fractured hip, that have prevented her from traveling to the cancer
center in Texas, for treatment. That is the reason why your thoughtful
and generous donation checks (made out to the Burzynski Clinic)
have not been cashed to date.
We will keep you advised on Lynne's
progress. She is a fighter!
2003
Thank
you for taking the time and interest to read this page. If you are
here, you apparently know of the life and death battle that NBR's much-loved volunteer Lynne is waging
against Cancer. Lynne continues her courageous fight, but she has come
upon a major financial stumbling block.
Those
of us who know Lynne Melemenis know of her selfless giving to the cause of animal
rescue. We also can speak volumes on Lynne's love and generosity
towards her family, friends and fellow volunteers. And those of
you who have met Lynne through one of her hundreds of adoptions, special
events, the Boxer Bashs, etc., have felt the warmth and care that Lynne
puts into each placement.
Well right now Lynne
is fighting for her life and needs our help. Lynne has been
accepted into a special program that could add time to her life.
The problem is...
It's not covered by insurance!
Can you help?
Of course you can. We all can afford $10, $20 or $30 dollars for a
good cause. And this is a good cause!
If
every family that adopted a Boxer from NBR last year (~500), sent in
$25, We could get Lynne through the first round of treatments!
(~$12,500)
If
every family that adopted a Boxer from NBR for the past two years
(~1000), sent in $25, We could get Lynne through the first and second
rounds of treatments! (~$25,000)
And if you can give
more, than so much the better.
This is not a big
organization asking for your money. This is a grass roots effort
to try to help someone who has helped out so many others. If you
have added to your family a happy four legged creature with Lynne's
help, or even if your new addition came from a different NBR volunteer,
I'm sure your pup would gladly give up that next toy so that you can
donate to this cause.
Please, right now
while you are thinking of it, time is of the essence... Send a check for
what ever amount you can. This is not a tax deductible donation,
but believe me you will feel very good just doing it.
Treatment is expected to begin in
approximately four weeks. By the fourth month we will know if she is
responding to treatment. If all goes well, treatment will continue
for one year.
