"Hope"

This dog has been adopted but has not yet completed the two week "trial period" in it's new home. Should the placement prove to be a poor fit for dog and/or family, he/she will be moved to the AVAILABLE section on the Available Dogs page.
8/03/01 – The results of Hope’s blood work, ultrasound and x-rays have confirmed our worst fears. Our vet has determined that our sweet little girl was born without her right kidney and her left kidney is abnormal. This condition has also caused her to become extremely anemic. Unfortunately, there is no treatment or cure for our girl but a home that can shower her with as much love and attention as possible is our dream for her. Hope will need a home where someone is with her most of the day as her need to urinate will be increased as compared to other dogs. Our vet feels that Hope might live a couple more years. She is a VERY sweet and loving little girl. She is house trained, crate trained and extremely mild-mannered. She loves walking on a leash (but needs a little more training) and is excellent riding in a car. Hope and her foster brother spend hours playing with all of their toys, hiking and hanging out at the lake swimming and catching their frisbee. Hope adores people and is also wonderful with other dogs. She has met three cats over the last few weeks and would love to play, however; the cats haven’t shared her enthusiasm in the matter.
Everyone that meets Hope falls in love with her instantly! You just can’t help yourself! She is the size of a 3 month old puppy, and will not get any bigger. How can you not love that?
Are you selfless and courageous enough to look beyond your own emotions to offer this beautiful and sweet girl the love and affection that she so desperately deserves?
7/29/01 - Hope has been to the vet and had her next set of blood work done so that we can compare lab results to the last set of tests. Of course, these results won't be back from the lab for a couple of days (probably early next week) but we did get some more insight from our vet. Even though she weighs only 24 lbs now and looks very much like a young puppy, her teeth seem to tell a different story. She has all of her adult teeth which means she's probably closer to 8-12 months old as opposed to 4 or 5 months old so its possible that her medical condition has stunted her growth somewhat. She is scheduled for an ultrasound and X-Rays next week but our vet feels her prognosis is "worrisome". At this point in time, we believe her condition is chronic but we don't yet know what that means long term. We will have another update on Hope next week. Please keep this little girl in your prayers.
7/5/01 - Good news for Hope (so far)!!! Test results indicate a kidney infection so we are treating her with antibiotics. We will rerun tests once she has completed 3 weeks of this medicine. Hope's foster Mom has already noticed a more concentrated urine and decreased water intake. In addition, Hope has had NO accidents in her crate for 2 days - so it appears as though she has more control. We are thrilled with these results and anxiously await
results from the next set of tests!!!
7/1/01- Hope is a young boxer puppy approximately 14 weeks old. She was found as a stray, utterly emaciated and was in a shelter for several weeks! Preliminary tests have shown she's currently anemic, probably due to the severe malnutrition, and our fear is that this may have also effected her kidney development. Further tests with our own vet will provide a more specific diagnosis for our special little girl, Hope. We will do everything in our power to help Hope over this hump, regardless of the prognosis. What we wish for Hope is a permanent loving family to continue providing her with the love, security and forever home that every puppy and dog deserves. Hope is by far the cutest, sweetest, most loveable puppy anyone will ever meet.
As with all puppies, Hope will require someone home most of the day to ensure proper training at the time she needs it most.
