Gulliver's Travels
A 360 DEGREE RESCUE. This one makes it all worth it!
A note from Northeastern Boxer
Rescue: When I went to
see this dog at the shelter, I thought there was no hope. He
looked as though he had fought a war. There were old scars, new open
wounds, and he could barely walk. Anywhere you tried to touch
this poor guy made him shriek. He was severely underweight and
uncomfortable in his own skin. To treat this dog would be a
long, expensive experiment... chances were he would be aggressive.
We think he was used in dog fighting, probably as bait.
After
discussing his situation with others at NBR, we decided to give this
guy the chance in life he was never given. We remembered that
there was a wonderful boxer loving vet that had offered to help in the
past with some of our rescues. This vet, Vet Care Unlimited, in
Queens NY, made Gulliver's life today possible. Vet Care
Unlimited nursed this baby back to health, gave him the love and
affection he needed in order to trust again.
After a 2 month
stay, and unlimited affection, Vet Care Unlimited unleashed, what was
once a scary sight, a well socialized beautiful boxer boy. His new mommy
came to pick him up, and from that day forward Gulliver has had
"the life". He never knew that life could be this
grand!!!! Not only is he a doll with people, but his best
buddy is Ernie, a male Rottie! Now that is what I call a 360
degree rescue!
From his new owner: I am a 24 year old girl that was
ready to be independent and move out of my parents' house. I landed up buying a small converted summer cottage,
perfect for me and a dog. My neighbor across the street has a boxer and I saw it one day and fell in
love. I knew I wanted a boxer and I wanted to adopt a dog. My father actually found boxerrescue.com and I
then found out about Gulliver, then named Frankie.
His picture wasn't even on the site yet, but I was told he was extremely underweight (44lbs), was an
abused dog with scars on his legs and face and his ear was sewn back on. It was suspected that he was used
as bait for a pit bull fight. I was sent a few pictures and decided to see him for myself. I drove
into Queens, NY where he had been for at least two months at Vet Care Unlimited. When I met him, he
jumped up on me and licked my face. He was still incredibly underweight and he had stitches in multiple
places and he had patches of hair missing. Many people warned me that an abused dog could be aggressive or
extremely passive.
I took him home two weeks later. He was named Frankie, after Frankenstein, because of huge drains he
had on him due to severe infections. I renamed him Gulliver after Gulliver's Travels. He is now a solid
65lbs and his stitches are out, his hair has grown back and he is truly my "everything". He sleeps next
to me in bed and does what I call the "Elaine Dance" (from Seinfeld) when it is time to go out. He is not
aggressive or passive and is full of love. I couldn't be happier!!
Thank you to everyone who gave me my best friend.
