Up: Hooper
My fiancé and I had been wanting a dog for some time but, unfortunately unable to have one because we were living in an apartment. In October of 2001 we finally purchased our first house, which meant shortly after we'd be "Boxer Shopping :-) ." We knew from the start that we wanted a boxer, so needless to say when we heard about this boxer foundation we were very excited.
It wasn't long before we came into contact with Jamie Meadow. From start to finish, Jamie was fantastic in helping us pick the perfect match for us. On the night of March 6th, 2002, Jamie called and said, " I have the perfect dog for you. He's a year old, male, fawn boxer whose name is Champ. His owner gave him to rescue when his living situation was not suitable for a large dog. He's house trained and is used to being home for 4 to 5 hours on his own."
The
next step was taking a trip to White Plains New York to visit Champ, which my
fiancé did the following day while I was at work. When he arrived at the
kennel, it was love at first sight. Anxiously waiting, I received a phone call
mid-afternoon that day. Upon his ride coming home my fiancé had called me and
asked, "Guess who's in the parking lot waiting to meet you?" I jumped out of my
chair and ran outside with joyful tears in my eyes as if I was meeting someone I
haven't seen in years.
There, in the parking lot was our new handsome boxer. As soon as I called his name, he looked at me and he curled his whole body into the shape of a kidney bean and started doing the cutest dance that boxers are known for.
To
this day, Hooper's tail never stops wagging. Looking into those deep, dark
eyes, you wonder how someone can give up such a caring, affectionate animal.
Since Hooper has arrived, our home has been filled with joy and laughter. His
antics are something you could only imagine seeing on America's Funniest
Videos.
The only problem Hooper has is he still thinks he's a 5 pound lap-dog and forgets that he's actually a 64 pound puppy. We are more amazed every day at how gentle he is for his size. It's not often that you can go up to a dog while they're eating or playing with a toy and pretend to share it with them without hearing a "back-off" growl. Instead Hooper looks at us and gives us a look of, "Would you like some?"
We especially want to thank Jamie from the Northeastern Boxer Rescue Foundation. Jamie went out of her way in helping us find "our perfect" Hooper. We look forward to many happy years with him.
