Follow Up: Knuckles Here is my story about Knuckles: In October of 2001 Abbey, my 10 year old Boxer got very sick and had to be put down. After about two months my wife and I knew that we wanted another Boxer. I told my family that I wanted to pick out my own dog from Boxer Rescue. I first saw Knuckles in February of 02 on the website. Since he was a male and described as bossy and aggressive my wife wasn't very enthusiastic about adopting him. In the meantime my daughter heard about a seven year old female Boxer that was in desperate need of a home. We took the female Boxer (Sweet Pea) in March. I continued to check the website to see how Knuckles was doing. More time passed and Knuckles remained in foster care but the write-up about him changed stating he was playing well with dogs of both sexes. My wife and I decided to adopt Knuckles on the condition that he and Sweet Pea get along. I loaded Sweet Pea in the car for our drive from Alabama to Pennsylvania to meet Knuckles. When they met, Knuckles and Sweet Pea ignored each other for the first five minutes, then Sweet Pea got ugly and tried to pick a fight with Knuckles. We tried to "re-introduce" them but Sweet Pea continued to be ugly and Knuckles wouldn't back off. Disappointed, I returned to Alabama without Knuckles. I couldn't get Knuckles out of my mind so I continued to check the website hoping to see that he got adopted. Months passed and Knuckles remained in foster care. As luck would have it I spoke with a dog trainer who told me that Knuckles and Sweet Pea could get along but it would take time and patience. Since the future looked bleak for Knuckles and I still had a soft spot in my heart for him, it was off to Pa. again. We adopted Knuckles on September 23, 2002 and it took about a month for Knuckles and Sweet Pea to get along but now they are good buddies (most of the time). Knuckles is a smart dog with a wonderful disposition and thanks to Gail and Jim Monk, plus a lot of help from the Lord, he is now in his forever home.
