Colby, formerly Henri, was one of Sheba’s nine pups born last November. We adopted him in February. He is now eight and a half months old and weighs about 84 pounds. Everyone tries to guess what kind of dog his father must have been, and we say, “We don’t know, but he must have been big!” He is actually very laid back for most of the day, especially for a pup. He kind of gently strolls around the neighborhood for his morning walk, no pulling on the leash at all. But after dinner in the evenings, look out! He will be played with. If he feels he is being ignored, he will steal anything from a child’s toy, to one of the pillows off of the sofa, and then the race is on to catch him. One of his favorite things is biting the water coming from the garden hose. He even watches for the neighbors as they come out to water their flower gardens. As soon as he sees them, he runs to the fences and stands there waiting for them to give him a spray. He also enjoys going to a local nature park called Harford Glen. He gets in the deepest part of the stream and jumps around smacking both of those enormous paws into the water just to make it splash. He absolutely loves other dogs. When we’re out for a walk, if he sees another dog coming in the opposite direction, he will lie down and wait. He can not be budged until the other dog comes within reach, and then he springs up to meet it, tail wagging. Right now, he is our only dog, but we are hoping to find a young female boxer to adopt before the end of the summer. She will need to be willing to romp and wrestle with our Colby.
