- 11/26/00 - Jagger is a very
special dog who was trained as a hearing dog, but can no longer serve in
that capacity. Let me explain. NBR tries to help as many dogs as we can who
are facing death in shelters. One of the programs we are involved with that
takes shelter dogs from us is a Service Dog organization in Massachusetts
called NEADS. They provide hearing dogs to people who are hearing impaired
or deaf. Several months ago we selected Jagger as a potential service dog
for this organization, and he did very well. He endured many months of
training at NEADS and was matched with a person who became his new
companion. Jagger has excellent skills that alert his human companion to the
sounds around us that most of us take for granted. However, after a month in
his new home he started to exhibit signs of dominance and toy possessiveness
and was pulled from the program. So...Jagger now needs a home where he can
be appreciated for his other exceptional qualities.
Jagger is a neutered male Yellow Lab mix who is about 1 1/2 years old, and
weighs about 50 pounds. He is obedience trained, housebroken, and is good
with other dogs and cats. Jagger will need a person with dog experience to
adopt him, who has no young children. In the meantime we are looking for a
foster home for Jagger because he is very unhappy in the kennel. Please
contact us if you can provide Jagger with a temporary or a permanent home.
