"Lucy"

This dog has been adopted but has not yet completed the two week "trial period" in it's new home. We are no long accepting applications or inquiries. Should the placement prove to be a poor fit for dog and/or family, he/she will be moved to the AVAILABLE section on the Available Dogs page.

• 12/16/00 - Update: Lucy is doing fabulous. She is putting on weight and no longer looks emaciated. She has learned to play nicely with the male and female Boxer in her foster home. She adores snuggling and will never leave your side. She is always looking for your approval. This girl has come a long way since she arrived from North Carolina. Please consider her for your next loyal companion.

• 12/5/00 - Update on pups: The pups have made it through their trauma. We appreciate everyone's thoughts and concerns. We have three females, Ali, Katie and Nina and one male, Malcom. Ali is the biggest and most playful - she holds her own with a 75 pound boxer boy! Katie likes to hide under the bed and grab your feet, or other dogs feet, as you walk by. Katie is a sweet, fuzzy girl who loves to sit on your lap and get her belly rubbed. Nina can't wait until you get home and will follow you all over the house, although she hasn't quite mastered going down the stairs yet and will let you know when she's stuck up there. Malcom, bless his heart, had stitches after being bit by another dog in North Carolina. He is the real snuggle boy and will fall asleep on your chest if you let him. These precious gems are now waiting for the permanent homes and would love to be there by the holidays. Please make their Christmas special after they have already had such a hard life!

  Update on Lucy - Lucy is doing very well. She has been a wonderful mother to her pups. Everyone who meets her remarks how sweet she is. She is estimated to be around 1 and 1/2 years old. We don't know about her background but she will need some stern instruction as she was probably an outside dog for most of her life - but seems to be loving becoming an inside dog! She is crate trained, but not completely housebroken - we're working on that. She is fabulous in the car and is OK on leash. She is a rough player with the other dogs and is dominant so may be better with a submissive male or as an only dog. She will be getting spayed shortly. Please consider this sweet gal who loves to snuggle on the sofa and will be an ever loyal companion.

• 11/24/00 - Update...  Starving Boxer In NC With 9 Pups
  Northeastern Boxer Rescue needs your help to save these sick puppies!  Many of you may have seen the plea about a Boxer and her 9 mixed breed pups in North Carolina posted to several email lists; they were taken from their owner by an Animal Control Officer because they were starving and placed in a NC shelter with no heat. With the cold coming, as soon as we heard about them we moved quickly to get them to safety. We worked with North Carolina Boxer Rescue and got them out of the shelter and into foster care in Pennsylvania. 
  

  Two of the pups were giving away at the shelter before help arrived, and one of the pups was adopted by a family in NC through NBR. After the mom (who we named Lucy) and her 6 pups arrived into our care, the puppies came down with Parvo. One of the pups named Colby has already died while undergoing medical treatment. We had to find an emergency veterinary service on Thanksgiving that would help us save these adorable animals. After many phone calls and three hours in the car, we managed to get them the veterinary care they needed. We all knew how expensive this was going to be ($550 so far just for treating poor Colby who died), but we believe the rest of the puppies deserve a fighting chance. It's so sad to see these beautiful little creatures, who were playing just hours before, become completely lifeless as their bodies try to fight off the virus. The supportive care given by the veterinarians can help them fight and survive the Parvo virus but this care is expensive, not to mention the holiday prices! 
  
  Already, Mindy and Malcolm are perking up and looking much better and we expect the same for the others. We desperately need your donations to pay the veterinary bills these little guys are accumulating. Please help us save Mindy, Malcolm, Alley, Katie and Nina. They are wonderful little dogs with lots of potential. They deserve a chance at a full life with a loving family. Please help us give that to them.

• 11/21/00 - Update: Mom (Lucy) and her six boxer mix pups (Beatrice, Malcolm, Colby, Katie, Nina and Ali) all arrived safely after being rescued from a shelter in North Carolina. The pups are in great shape and don't seem to have minded the long ride. All are playful and full of energy. Please open your heart and home to one of these very special dogs that have already had a rough road.

  Update on mom: Lucy arrived safely after being taken from a shelter in north Carolina. Lucy had been starving and nursing pups. The owner never came to pay his fine so Lucy made the long trip to Pennsylvania. Lucy is very skinny but is still in good spirits after her long journey. This gorgeous girl needs some TLC as she is still a little anxious. But she will return your care ten fold if you give her a good home.
