Max & Minnie

Adopted 5/02
1/22/02 - Max & Minnie's story with us starts back in late September. They were in a shelter in NJ after being picked up running together as strays. How a elderly male boxer and a tiny female terrier/chi mix ended up on the streets in the condition they were in we will never know.
Max is estimated at 10 years old. He
was covered in ticks and fleas, had major hair loss and was emaciated.
Minnie is estimated at 7-8 years old and was in the same condition as Max.
Both dogs had nails so long it effected their walking. Both dogs were
rescued from the shelter, got checked out by the vet and placed in a foster
home to recuperate. After they were healthy enough they where spayed and
neutered. The foster home worked hard at getting them
housebroken, and showered them with love.
Max is a very sweet "loved starved boxer," they said. And was wonderful with the couple who was fostering him. But Max decided he needed to protect them from people who were visiting the home. There were several instances where he growled at visitors and needed to be restrained. He and Minnie were moved from the foster home for evaluation.
Max and Minnie are being fostered now in a
multi dog household. With the other dogs Max doesn't feel the need to protect
the home, the behaviorist said. We have not had the problems with him and
visitors as they did in his last foster home where he and Minnie where the
only dogs. He does "crate guard" which means if he is crated and someone he is
not familiar with is
close to it he will growl. Only a experienced boxer home will be considered
for Max. If he is adopted it must be for the rest of his life. His issues must
be considered and thought out by anyone interested in him. He has a lot of
love to give and deserves to have a family and be loved in his golden years.
Minnie is a very sweet little dog. She will
come up onto anyone's lap and gives lots of kisses. She was very attached to
Max at first, not letting him leave her sight. But she has become comfortable
with the other dogs and has really settled in. If Minnie is adopted without
Max she must go to a home with another dog who is friendly to her. She needs
someone who is home all
day, as she is very needy and not trustworthy with house breaking yet. Because
of her size and age a home with small children will not be considered. She can
be very playful and loves to chew big knuckle bones, it is funny to watch this
little 5 pound dog chew and pull around a bone as big
as her.
