4/26/01 - Update
from the foster home!: "Tootsie
has been with us 6 weeks now and she has settled right in like she
has
always been here. During the first few weeks Tootsie was definitely
suffering
from some separation anxiety but she is doing much better now
during
the day when I am at work. Tootsie goes into her crate no problem at
all,
now that I have finally discovered some treats that she likes its even
better,
Tootsie loves ice cubes and she loves cheese, especially some frozen cottage cheese (fat free
of course) inside a Kong keeps her busy during the day.
Tootsie gets along just fine with our Male boxer, she loves to snuggle up with him, there has
only been one incident between the two of them since she
arrived and that was not her doing either. She definitely needs to be watched around other
females which we have discovered on our walks but she never
has any problems with male dogs. Tootsie knows to Sit, and give the paw, and Come (most of
the time, that one could do with some work), she understand
No, and Get Down or Off. She walks very nicely on the leash and only pulls when she gets
excited. Tootsie loves her toys, especially soft cuddly
toys and usually has one in her mouth.
Tootsie will be 5 next month but to look at her you
would think she was much younger, she has a very young
and cute face. She has lost a few pounds since she came to us, not that she was fat before,
but she needed to shed a couple of pounds, she looks
great now and weighs about 47 lbs, she is a very petit little boxer girl. Tootsie does not
have a huge appetite and at first I had a hard time getting
her to eat dry food, but I find if I add some chicken broth of even just some water to her
food she will eat it no problem now. Tootsie can be energetic
and playful, but gentle at the same time. Most of the time she is very quiet and mellow.
She is a very affectionate, she loves belly rubs, and
she loves to snuggle in bed or on the couch watching TV. We only allow the dogs to sleep on our
bed at the weekend so during the week she sleeps beside
our bed on her own little bed or snuggled up with our boxer on his bed. Tootsie has only had
one accident in the house and that was during her first
few days with us, which is to be expected. She will always let us know when some one is at
the door, she has a very deep bark for her size, but
her barks quickly turn into wiggles once they come into the house. She is very friendly when she
meets new people, but can get a little bit anxious when
she is in a new environment but I notice she is getting better about this as she settles in
and her confidence grows again, unfortunately she will
have to go through this again when she finds her new home, but she will get over it with plenty
of love and reassurance. Tootsie loves going for walks
and gets very excited about it, and she loves to ride in the car also.
Tootsie
is very smart and learns quickly, and has fit into our family and
our
routine very quickly. She is a wonderful little companion and I think
she
would make a great addition to any family."

Update from the foster home!: "I
think she would be fine in a home as on only dog but I think
she would be happier with another dog (male) for company, she follows my
male dog everywhere. She
would also probably be better in a home where someone works short hours
and is home for some of the day. She needs a home where she will get
plenty of attention, she whines a
lot if she is being ignored. She has a very mellow/quiet personality
so I think she would do better in a home
that is not too hectic and busy. A fenced in yard is
a must she enjoys running around the yard, and loves going for walks, last
night she got her leash and
brought it over to me. It needs to be a home that will let her
on the couch and bed if possible
because she seems most relaxed when she is hanging out on the couch with
my dog."
3/15/01 - Tootsie is a fawn female boxer with natural ears and a docked tail and is almost 5 years old. She is up to date on shots and already spayed. Tootsie is friendly and affectionate and loves to ride in the car. She was surrendered to rescue because the other female dog in the house didn't get along with her. Tootsie is being fostered with an older male boxer now and they are getting along just fine. She is house trained and crate trained.
